Basically, to cut a long story short. I've been offered a horse to buy because he doesnt suit the person who bought him very recently. You know when you just know and fall in love!! However, I haven't ridden him yet! Sounds daft i know!

So here's the video, he's a 16.2 well bred 5 year old. He was bought over from Ireland on Tuesday, full 5 stage vetting and was wanted for hunting, although i'd have him as a showjumper/hunter.

First look I thought he was nice enough but when I stopped it as he took off over several of the jumps he seemed very slow to lift his shoulders, being nowhere near clean enough in front for my liking, if you go and see him it may be different but something to look out for.

He looks wonderful - really eager to please - no hesitation at any of the fences and nice and forward, but not strong. I can see what you see in him :D

Apparently he has a lovely temperment too which is a bonus. If I don't like him enough for myself, chances are i'll end up with him at my yard to sell on for the owner. He has apparently loose jumped 1.60 but haven't seen it myself. He is still young and the little course the video is over, he had never been over it before so was all new to him as a test.

He looks nice and bold but quiet at the same time, in general I like him.

However I really dislike his jumping technique in front, he doesn't lift his shoulders and has very dangly front legs but it depends on what you want to do and the level you want to get to.

I would, he looks right up my street :D

So he hasn't been over here a week yet but the potential owner has already decided they don't want him? What's that all about then? (If I've read that right).

I like him a lot, I'd have him. Certainly lifts his backside up when jumping.

I think we need lots more info and more pics of this handsome chap :)

If this horse is in Sussex then his story is very like one I bought and you might want to pm me to compare details. I'm not saying there's anything wrong but it wasn't quite as straightforward as I was led to believe.

Basically he was bought on recommendation from the owners dealer who he has bought off previously, the owner likes him but feels he's a bit fine for him and not enough 'there' for hedge hopping so said he'll sell him on. He's disappointed but knew that he took that risk, hence why he's been offered to me to buy or to sell for him. He wouldnt sell the horse himself as he doesnt do anything other than take them out hunting, he pays for it to be on full livery. The owner is very genuine, i have no doubts why he's being sold, he's just too fine for the owner.

Thanks for the opinions of him. I did half think about his front end but his technique could be improved with work, the video is hard to go by because that was a course he'd never seen, ridden by someone who's never ridden him. I will see if I can go try him out and see what i think!

Nice type but as said not great in front depends on what level you want to get him too and how he feels when you assess him in the flesh.
Approach with caution and find out as much as you can.

Hmmm ... nice stamp certainly.
Jockey is doing a good job, I reckon it could all fall apart fairly easily ....

Not using his front end very well at all.

If he is cheap enough and you are willing to put in the work then certainly worth a sit.

I probably wouldn't be rushing to see him if you are serious about showjumping, and would be cautious even for hunting.

When I first saw him I thought yes, yes, yes!

However I dont particularly like his jumping style but on the other hand he does have scope. It depends what you want him for & how much they are asking. He look DEFINITLY worth a try at least! :D

Thanks, can I just ask why you say this? I'd be looking at showjumping BSJA up the levels but Newcomers and Foxhunters would be the aim in the short term - but would start at Novice and discovery initially to see how he went.

The owner would let me compete him before i offered money for him. I know what he paid and i know he wont want to lose much - understandably, but he would also rather me buy him than the hassle of selling him himself. I'd probably be looking at 5k. Its a bonus that he has recently been 5 stage vetted.
