Okay, my little man came back from loan (with view to buy) after being away for just a week. As soon as he stepped off the trailer I noticed he was lame, I asked the girl what he'd done and she said he'd been fine and she had noticed nothing wrong with him.

I got the vet out 3 days later after giving him a bit of time to see if he'd just tweaked it a little on the journey back. She looked at him all angles, flexion tested him and all was ok. She looked at his feet and found a fair bruise right on the sole of his foot where she said she suspected he'd stood on a round, sharp stone and it had scooped a little off the bottom of his foot and he was just a little sore. She said rest him a few days and see how he is.

This was last Friday. He's not got any better and I don't think it's his feet that are the problem. It looks to me to be his stifle. He seems very awkward and uncomfortable.

I took this video today out for a minute walk and would liike to see what you all think.

He seems to be very weak behind and was quite wobbly before taking him out for a little leg stretch. I'm going to take this video into the vet tomorrow and see what my vet says.

To me it seems the issue is coming from the left hind leg, possibly stifle or hoof (looks like the pain is in the lower portion of the leg). He is definitely not comfortable so if you could make a video of him walking and trotting away from the camera it would be much better. But I would call a vet.

He looks very lame behind, and difficult to tell how he is in front. Does he have any raised digital pulses in any feet?

What a shame for you to have him returned to you lame!

If you've only given him a few days box rest then it could well be that the bruise the vet discovered is still hurting him. When my filly bruised her sole she was lame/unlevel for a while and I know another horse on our yard took a month to heal following a deep bruise!

However if you suspect something else then defo have the vet back out or a second opinion. You know your horse best and sometimes following your gut instinct really pays off.

Thank you all who have commented so far. He has no pulses in any of his feet.

I will try and get some more videos of him tomorrow, his near hind is the worst, but he isnt comfortable on his offside either, whether thats him compensating for being sore this side i'm not sure. Will definitely be getting the vet out for him again though!

What a lovely little pony! I hate hearing stories of people bringing them back from loan poorly! I would say get a vet out ASAP..My mums horse was sent away to be broken and reared up onto a gate. He had fractured his stifle and had bone fragments that needed removing and thankfully they didn't cause long term damage but I would say that his action looks very suspect.

Would be interested to know what the outcome is but I would agree with other that it is definitely more than a bruised sole.

Good luck

Get the vet. Poor thing looks in agony. Could he have fallen when travelling? Or more likely the prospective buyer knows more than they are letting on. Looks like he has had quite an accident. Looks to be coming from back/pelvis area to me. Or possibly ataxia caused by neck trauma. :(

I'd get the vet back as well and or a good osteo. I'm not much good at gait but it looks like sore feet or back (loin area) I think it's called scooting? Short striding and tucking bum under.
Poor little fella, he's lovely. x

I agree with the back/hip problem - is it possible someone far too heavy for him decided to ride him? SI damage perhaps?
He does look very stiff somewhere. Poor li'l chap.

I agree. He looks lame on his back hind legs and he looks quite stiff. I recommend like everyone else that you ring a vet. He is lovely! Please keep us up to date on what is happening!:D

Just that he never settled in, was biting kicking etc. I've had him since 7 months old and he would never dare to lift a leg at anyone :/

Thanks for all your comments, going to get the vet out ASAP.

Oh bless him. Definitely get the vet out.
It's difficult to tell from that, but there seems to be something going on on both sides, quite possibly pelvis.

Please keep us updated.

I wouldn't necessarily say this, I know of a fair number of horses who have displayed quite drastic uncharacteristic behavior when they are not where they want to be/happy.

I would ask vet to come out and reassess and ask vets 'permission' for a chiro visit. I would actually keep up gentle exercise, because I think that standing still in a stable may be less beneficial and cause more stiffness, just the odd short walk in hand on good ground.

Personally I'd do the opposite. Need to keep him as still as possible in case it's a fracture. Need to rule that out first.

That needs the vet sooner rather than later, agree that he needs to be kept in. And I would be suspecting laminitis.

He's not been out on any grass for weeks, and is fed only a small amount of soaked hay.
Do you know for certain this is what he's been eating? Just wondering about the biting and kicking which is out of character as well. Anyway, I'm speculating :o so good luck with the vet visit.

Poor little chap. He looks as though he's not really flexing his right hind fetlock, and he's slapping that foot down very much heel first. I hope you get him sorted asap.

I would be suspecting that he's had an accident while he's been away and they aren't telling you and that's why they've sent him back.
Hope he's okay, I'd be so mad if it were mine.

No I don't know that's all he's been eating. Vet used hoof testers and checked for pulses but nothing, was just sore in the area of his bruise. Im so frustrated, something has obviously happened to him but I keep being told the same story that nothing has happened to him. :( poor little man.
