I have been a little down hearted since our outing to Moulton last weekend. For those of you that didn't read he report i had an aweful stop in the first class (90cm) but finished on just four faults. I then jumped the 1m and got eliminated at the third to last fence!!

The videos aren't great quality (i taped them off the tv as i have no idea how to get them on the computer!!

) , but hopefully you can see whats going on. I could do with some constructive help!

First vid of 90cm class (and yes, i very nearly fell off at the second fence).

1m class (I got eliminated at the second part of the double with two stops, but OH only caught the first on camera):

Thanks for watching!!

Well sat!
I'm no expert but the first class she seemed a bit fast, flat and deep into it but the second class it looked a bit of a dirty stop to me?
I was going to say has she had her back checked but I remember you are training to be a Mctimoney so dont think that needs mentioning!!
She looks lovely and flowing and turns really nicely in the rest, wouldnt fancy getting into jump off with you, bet she can fly!
Dont get down hearted, My mare started the stopping at fillers, she was just trying me out but I was just the same, I got so I didnt trust her but now she is fine after I got a bit tougher with her.
Like I say though, I'm no expert so dont take my word for it!

First..well done for sticking at it!
Im in a hurry so to be brief Id say try to keep your hands a little stiller..and more leg!!You need to make it very clear to her that the only option is to keep moving forwards around the course. She looks quite green-is she?Also..just a thought, but whats she like in other bits?xxx well done though

just watched the 2nd vid..and she looks much better in it..

Only thing id say from that is try to be thinking impulsion..other than that-good job x

Um not really, although she is only 8 (this year) she has jumped up to fox and was ridden by a professional before me. We have jumped NC but she had a break over xmas and ive dropped down a bit to try and get things together. She jumps at home in a waterford (snaffle with cheeks) but she can get a bit long and flat away from home so i ride in the pelham to try and keep a bouncy canter and not let her go out the front door.

Little cow! Well done for staying put though

In the first class she looked like she was a bit flat, lacking impulsion and was just running into the base of some of the fences.
The second class looked much better, it was flowing and she was moving forwards well, that stop looked a dirty one though!

Well sat in the first video, watching it I didn't have a clue she was going to stop, so it doesn't look like you could have a done a lot there. Well ridden to get her thru the pink double as she looked like she went to stop there as well. I thought you were going forward nicely etc.

In the 2nd vid you had a lovely shot in so no idea why she stopped.

Sorry - not much use

It funny though, because i managed to get round the first class on only four faults, yet the second one i got eliminated. She felt quite 'sticky' in places in the second class - i think i actually had to tap her on the neck a couple of times to get her attention....

Bleh, i dunno.... useless....

nice horse, and you are a v tidy rider.

what i would say is,
in the first video, with the speed of the canter you had and the stride you asked for, she was unable to jump from that spotm whereas if you hada steadier canter then she would have been able to jump off that short stride.

in the second video, it looks like you got her on a slightly deeper shot into the double and she jumps up over the oxer but not across, which means she didnt travel on landing, so tried to get two strides in a one strided double.

i wouls say with the good riding you are already doing, just think about your rhythum and strides and you should be sorted

well sat.

Well sat in the first class! She just looked a little long and flat in first class.
Second class she was better. From the video i think (im no expert!) that you need to keep your hands stiller, and try not to flap hand infront of fence. She has a nice rhythem, but you need to work on impulsion without increasing speed. However saying that the stop in the double looked abit naughty on her part. But maybe you could have sat up abit more after landing over 1st part, that way rein contact there and less of a chance for her to say "oh we can stop here mum."

But what do i know!!

Hope ive helped somehow!

you're not doing a lot wrong, but the fact that she was ridden by a pro before is quite telling... she's totally unforgiving/bloody naughty actually. she could easily have jumped both of those from where she was.
watching both vids, you sometimes don't see a great stride, so her final stride is slighty shortened and breaks the rhythm. when you see a forward one, things look better... but obv that's not the answer, as it'd make it flatter and faster.
i think you need to concentrate on keeping a slightly shorter, bouncier canter all the time, not looking for a stride, just keeping it all the way to the fence so that your final stride is more likely to be the same size and tempo as all the others, and then because she's got a bit more power stored up through the bouncier canter she'll hopefully feel more confident about helping you out a bit if you are very slightly off or deep.
hope that makes sense.
oh, and i'd give her a bloody huge smack if she stopped like that with me! very very naughty.
i'd teach her to jump from walk too, so she knows she can use herself better, and isn't so likely to think "NO, i can't!!"

She looks a nice horse and they were mainly good rounds so don't get too disheartened. The thing I noticed is that you move your hands quite a bit in front of the jumps, expecially the ones you are concerned about, like the oxer with the filler underneath. I think if you try to keep your hand completely still for the last 3 strides this will help her to flow more.

I'd say you did exactly what I do and that's come in too fast!

After the stop the rest of the round slow's down and is alot better.

I'm trying so hard to keep a nice quality canter inbetween fences because I've had made so many silly mistakes with going too fast!

Well sat!! Agree with what had been said, you are too quick!! She is looking a bit spooky and because she is going quick, it means she has less tiome to look at what she is doing and also a better oppurtunity to stop!! SLOW everything down. She has a big jump, so doesnt need to being going at 100mph everywhere, specially as she does seem a bit looky at some of the fillers. Do you jump her from trot at all?

Well sat. What i would say is after she had stopped like that in the first class rather than bother to jump a bigger class i would have put her back round HC, that would have instilled confidence in both you and her. The main thing i noticed is that you don't seem to have her between your hand and seat enough, so the canter isn't as bouncy and she isn't sitting back on her hocks enough. So perhaps sit taller keep a stronger hold of the rein and ride more from the seat, but that is very difficult to see from a video. Definitely looks like a confidence issue and a naughty habit on her part! Good luck and keep going

hey hun

can i call her a cow too?? because she is!

first vid i couldnt really see what went wrong.

the second vid she really didnt need to stop!
i noticed though that if you watch it back from coming round the corner to the combi - your body is already forward instead of sitting on yur butt and pushing forward!
the only reason i say this is that maybe had your body been upright you may of been able to sit up a little quicker after the first part to jam your leg on again for the second.

does that make sense?? or only in my head??
