viewing a horse

I am going to view a horse on sunday. When I rang up the woman was pleasant enough I asked if I could view it next thursday, to which she replied 'She will be gone by then' Does this come across as realistic or pushy?
If there is any advice any one has to give fire away!!!
I have already asked someone else to ride her before me so I can see her being ridden, and have general questions to ask this is the first horse I am viewing so in reality no I will probably not end up buying it, but I have to start somewhere!

Get there earlier than arranged, to see what is going on before your arrival!!
Tack it up yourself, or see it being tacked up.
What is it like with having it's feet picked up, etc, all the little everyday things basically.
Let someone else ride it, and then your turn. Do everything you intend to do with it if you do buy it.
Ask every question you can think of, now matter how trivial.

And above all don't let your heart rule your head. If you like it, go back and see it again.

im selling a pony ATM, i had the 1st phone call today and i was so nervous my words wouldnt come out right!! but they came and saw her tonight, i waited until they came to tack her up, im selling her as a childs pony so friends child rode her to prove what shes made of, they asked allsorts, i cant remember most of them cos my friend took over! but i would never make anything up as i wouldn't like it done to me, their phoning back in morning to arrange the daughter coming to meet her, and my friend told me to say that ive got someone else coming to view her but ive put them off until monday, she said that will hurry up their decision but im not going to say that!! thats lying in my opinion! when i got a chance to speak i told them the whole truth,

When i bought my lad, the owner said she had someone else coming to see him so i needed to decide sharpish.

I left it a day or two, as i had been bullsh*tted by people before and had lost confidence with people.
Texted her a couple of days later, offering a silly price, thinking she would tell me to come up with a better offer, but mine was accepted. So i guess that plan of hers backfired.

Don't be pushed into anything, and don't be made to feel you must decide NOW or you will miss out. If it's meant to be it will be.
Go with an open mind, and see what happens. You may see 50 horses before you find the right one. It's all experience

When I was looking recently I found out as much about the horse as possible on the phone.

For me several things were very important:

In no particular order;

1. How straight was its movement
2. Did it have any vices
3. What was it like in traffic (don't ask if it's good!)
4. Does it load
5. How did it get on with other horses

Those were the most important things to me. With the traffic issue I wanted a response other than 'yes it's good in traffic' If you ask a question that doesn't have a yes/no answer you will get more information.

So pressuming I then wanted to see the horse, I then made an appointment like you have done.

I saw three horses.

No. 1 - Nice enough. Watched it tacked up etc, very sweet. Rider got on it - horrendous. I told them after seeing it ridden for two mins that it was not what I was looking for. Thanked them and left.

No. 2 - Lovely. Again, watched it tacked up etc, no probs. Too hot for me though.

No. 3 - Love at first sight. Tacked up, ridden, jumped. Then ridden by me, jumped, hacked out for 20 mins. Vetted, home, HAPPY

So, get as much information beforehand - and sometimes only by seeing horses that are wrong, will you know the questions to ask next time.

So for instance, the mare that was too hot for me was particularly sensative in the mouth, and I would not have the lightest hands in the world. So when I arranged to view the next horse - that was a question I asked, and so on.

ha ha ha if you want a lovely little 12.2 grey welshie mare!!! she yours!!! i think she'd be a wicked gymkhana pony. she can trot really fast. when i was lunging her i used to feel sick and dizzy constantly!!!
