i'm now in a position to arrange some viewings on potentail new horses, have made a few initail enquiries and now ready to contact sellers and get something arranged. so far, there are prob 3 potentails.
so, what happens if i fall in love for the first one? alot folks say don't buy the first one! what happens if i get there and don't like, do i say from the start and leave or do i not say anything and let them show it off etc etc, then ring them later and say not intrested. what happens if i like one, agree to buy subject to vetting, do i continue with the other viewings and explain i'm having one vetted or do i cancel??

trying to cover every angle as i know people go to alot of effort to prepare there horses for viewings!

I think the "don't get the first one" thing is a bit of a cliche as in, don't rush in and buy something you don't really like just because you're excited about getting a new horse... but if it's the first you see and it is suitable in every way and you love it- well go for it!! Can't really help with the rest, but will look forward to the answers...

If you fall in love with the first one, tell the owner you are very interested but it is the first one you have seen, and you would like to see a few more to make up your mind. If you arrange to see several in a weekend this shouldn't be a problem as you can explain you are seeing some more later that day and tomorrow and you will get back to them after you have seen them. Given that you should see any horse you like enough to get vetted at least twice, their is no problem in seeing other horses up until that second visit, just don't arrange any for after the second visit, in case you decide you do want to go ahead and get them vetted.
As for question 2, I would just say straight away if it deffo wasn't what I was looking for, but if I was just a little unsure I would carry on - horses often suprise you, one you don't like the look of say, may be the best horse you have ever ridden!

I make sure I go and see the potential horses twice to make sure they are the same as I remember them being.

I arrange to have them vetted after the second time of seeing them.

Even if I liked the first horse I saw I would go and see at least one more so you had a comparison.

Happy horse hunting!

thanks peeps.

just another thought, what would you do if you really really liked a horse on first visit but knew they had lots of other interest and viewings, obviously you wouldn't want to be pressured into making any sort of commitment other than a second viewing but there could be loads of others that snap it up then and there (subject to vetting etc) and i lose out. do i just accept and move on?

the owner may well tell you others are looking at it, doesnt mean they even exist! Could be just to put pressure on you.

Plus, they will also have to get horse vetted so before you get anything vetted, ask and see if anyone else is doing the same.

The owner (in my experience as an owner) will probably pick the buyer they most want to own their horse!

You never know, that might be you!!
