Seen a horse today, I like him but not madly love him, but there is someone else interested and they are coming down for a second viewing tomorrow. I like him but I dont want to be pushed. What would you do?

Is there really someone else going for a second viewing? When I bought mine, apparently there was someone else interested too, although I think the seller made them up to try and make me buy!

I wasn't excited really about mine either, he was a bland ish 4yo, obviously a nice person, but nothing spectacular. 7 years on and I couldn't imagine having bought anything else :)

Go for a second viewing I think. :)

Yeah there is actually another person interested but shes going down tomorrow. I would prefer to have a second viewing tbh.

Ah, the elusive "other viewer coming"! That old chestnut! Lol. Look, I feel what will be will be, I would certainly go see him again. If these other people are coming back and do like him and buy him then maybe it just wasn't meant to be for you.

I remember when I was buying mine, oh about 16 years ago, we were told someone else wanted to buy him as was coming with a trailer etc etc. I will never know if that was true, I was 16, I wanted this horse so we just agree to buy him!!! Lol.

Don't feel pressured in to making a decision.

It is very unusual for more than one person to view a horse? Because if not, the sellers may well be telling the truth!

If you don't feel that passionate - I must have him scenario, I don't think its right - BUT I'm a heart over head person!

Is there really though? I had this with a few horses- one was 'I have loads to see him this weekend but I've told them to wait as I really want him to go to you when you come on Monday'
Another I went to see- 'had somebody yesterday really interested but offered me a lower price'- (phone rings) 'yep, I've got somebody else here now- if you want her you'll have to come when this person has gone and put a deposit down' (hangs up) turns to me 'if you want her I'll meet you in an hour at the cashpoint with the deposit'
Horse I eventually got, loved him on sight, no pressure/tactics etc as it was I put a deposit on, (volunteered) viewed once (rising two from field ) arrived 3 days later! Still in touch with old owners - Perfect :D
Go with your gut instinct but be wary of the 'sales' tactics some people use ;)

There are hundreds of horses out there, I'm a believer in fate... he obviously didn't blow you away, so if it isn't meant to be there may be something else better round the corner...

With the best horses that you have bought in the past, have you felt crazy about them from a first ride? Or are you usually a cautious one, who thinks with her head?

Its a hard one, im selling at the minute had viewers everyday since wednesday, yesterdays veiwers put a deposit down, just had another lady deciding to buy but is to late and tommrows second viewing ive just had to cancel. So it could well easily be true, as i had viewings booked to wedneday!! Wish id put the price a bit higher now, as i out it low thinking there wasnt any buyers out there!! Oh well.

It depends if you really want or not and if theres alot of others you can look at ect.

Yeah I think its reasonable to assume, unless you are buying a donkey (metaphorically speaking) you are unlikely to be the only one interested. If you walk away and wait, just be prepared to miss out in my eyes.

You say you like him but not madly in love-are you sure this is the right horse for you? I gather you've been looking for a while.
I would take it that if the people coming tomorrow like him and choose to have him then that's a sign her's not the right one for you.
If not, then go back for a second viewing and go from there. Don't let anyone rush you into making a decision!:)

I dont madly love him but in a way Id be gutted to miss out on him but I really need a second viewing but havent got much time left to think about viewing again.

kvh - you've got a point its just when it takes you ages to find a horse thats okay and the thought of having to look at more horses really fills me with dread but I must have sensible head on!

I would hope that the vendor will stick to her original timetable. The other viewers obviously looked at him first and arranged a second viewing. IMO they should have the chance to view and decide before someone whose viewing was later. Anyway, it doesn't sound as though you are madly keen on this horse, just that 'he'll do'. I should wait until you find 'THE ONE'.

Oh yes I completely understand that feeling! I know it's hard but the right horse will be out there for you-not necessarily as soon as you want it, but I've learnt it's no good just 'settling', you could end up with an unsuitable ned!
Very frustrating, but just keep looking. You will know when you've finally found the right one! :)

Think I'd act the same regardless of whether there are other viewers coming or not. A good horse, well advertised will sell, so get a second viewing in pronto and make your decision. If you are still not sure, walk away and take a chance that the horse is still available while you deliberate.

No thats not fair on the vendor. It costs a lot of money to advertise and you cant put off potential buyers till someone has committed and put down a deposit. I had people come down yesterday who seemed to really like my horse. They were nice people and seem keen but I am still letting other people see him. Until money has exchanged hands then my horse is not sold. He would only come off the market once a deposit has exchanged hands and a vetting date agreed. Why on earth should the seller take all the risk and potentially turn away someone who WOULD buy?!

In terms of your own timescales, then if I did like the horse then I would arrange to go back for an earlier viewing myself. Yes the buyer might be being creative with the truth but if I was that keen I would make the effort. I always video when I try out though as find that looking at this at home, away from the whole wonder of a new horse can really help make up my mind..

IMHO it depends on what you are looking at. If you are looking at a horse that everyone wants ie 15 to 16h ish suitable for RC or more, sane sensible at a reasonable price. Then my experience is if the horse isn't sold really quickly it is not what is says on the tin!

I have bought 2 of these in recent years and BOTH were only advertised the day I phoned after them and I was first viewer.

Last I had been looking for ages and none were what people said they were. He didn't really do much for me the first time I tried him he seemed a bit common looking and quite green. However I thought about it and went back and tried him again. Still didn't set my heart alight BUT he ticked enough boxes so I bought him. Best horse I ever had and WILL be my horse of a lifetime he is so special

Soulful - he is a sane sensible allrounder, okay brakes dont work very well out hacking in canter but thats the only thing wrong. I will contact her this morning and try him out again hopefully before other person gets there this afternoon.

Well my horse kind of fits in with Soulfull analogy above

However I have turned down 3 offers thus far, as either were unsuitable buyers, or didn't quite offer what I wanted

So therefore not all sold in a day!

Again I have had lots of people booked into view, but its a case of finding ones that I like and will give me a deposit

When I bought my horse, the seller did this, but on the first viewings too. She wouldn't even allow me to come and look until the first person that phoned up had been. Luckily the first person did a no-show, and I saw her and bought her after one view and a vetting. Personally I thought that it was a wierd system - very polite, but if I'm selling I would let the horse go to the first person to come with the money. Too many people mess you around! I suppose that its fair on a second viewing, but its still very complicated, and could make the process of sellling take ages if the first couple didn't buy - then you'd get "why hasn't it sold yet?" questions when people rang up...

I'm a bit of a fate fan, if it's meant to be it will be. Don't rush into anything because there's almost always "someone else coming to see him", if you miss this one then you could well find the perfect horse and be glad this one didn't work out.

Don't be pushed. Arrange a second viewing later in the week. If it's still available, great. If not - hey ho.

Forget the horse and move on. If a horse doesn't excite you immediately then it isn't the one for you. I get a gut feeling when it's right and nothing will stop me getting that horse.
