Having lost my TB mare 18 months ago, I wasn't originally going to replace her until next year when hopefully I can find a job nearer to home. But now I'm seeing someone who lives near the yard anyway, and I've been offered what may be an interesting prospect. Now first thing, I only want something for hacking and a few distance rides, no competing. This is a big (17hh plus) TB gelding, so perfect in that respect as I'm tall. Supposed to be very sensible and kind, good to box/clip/shoe, etc, etc. Only thing is he's apparently injured a tendon so can't compete this year and needs a bit of time off (hence a very good price). That doesn't bother me, I can turn him out for the winter and bring him back in spring. My last horse had an old tendon injury but it never gave us any trouble whatoever. Obviously I won't be able to try him though.
So I'm just thinking, what questions should I ask, given I won't be able to ride him?! It's been a good ten years since I went to view
