Hi there, I am still looking for my next horse!

I have seen an ex riding school pony for sale who, apparently, doesn't do anything but walk when in a school. Is that just an over exaggeration or do these ex riding schoolers just switch off?

Anything I need to consider first before viewing?

Not sure if you have seen it just walk or been told it just walks. I have looked at just walked and ridden by children and granny etc etc used in a riding school and by the RDA and if someone can explain when I get on they seem to want to tank off with me!

Being used in past by RDA or is going to go to RDA. I was even told on one viewing that someone with only one arm was coming to view the pony the next day.

Saying that not all horses like school a bit like I didnt like school.

Some horses are FAB in the school and dont like hacking etc. The only way is to see it and try it out.

There are good riding school horses too. Good luck......

Wouldn't be much fun if you want to do a bit of dressage....

This is what I was thinking. BUT on the otherhand, I don't ride very often (weekends), I've never done dressage before and never really wanted to but its nice to have the option. I am mainly a happy hacker, and he is made for that. Seems pretty safe. They are selling as the want to have lessons on him and he restricts them.

Hmmmmm......what to do.....

In what way does he restrict them? Is it because he is impossible to get out of walk? If so, you could buy him (cheaply!!!!!) but I would bet my bottom dollar that as you become more experienced and/or confident you would soon become bored with a horse like that.

Yes impossible to get out of walk in the school. Fine out though. Hmmmm, you might be right with the bordem aspect.

Keep looking?

I would tbh, although it may be worth trying him out on a hack. The trouble with riding school horses/ponies is that they tend to have 'hard' sides which means you have to 'pony club' them to get them going, which is exhausting for the rider and soon becomes frustrating too.

If he has switched off you could try and do more interesting things with him, lunge to get him forward going in the school, long line, hack, jump etc. If its just a schooling issue I think it could be worked on :)

Yes i absolutely could do that :D Long reining would also be very effective. The sellers are selling as it has become very frustrating and they are novices trying to learn how to ride. they don't believe in whips though.... It could become frustrating though if nothing worked.
