Richard Maxwell, Gary Witheford, Michael Peace,Tim Piper?

Has anyone used any of the above?
How successful was it?
What was the problem with the horse?
How long did the results last?
How much did it cost?

I have a problem with a large, 9 year old, ISH, gelding hunter. He is fantastic in the field but is impossibly stubborn hacking out.

I only know what I saw with Richard Maxwell and it was utterly amazing, a life changing event and has influenced what I do with horses forever more. Pre RM I had horses that wouldn't load, wouldn't be clipped etc etc and now I have lovely well mannered horses who load into anything without batting an eye lid and would stand in there all day without caring and can do anything with them.

I've met Richard Maxwell and he is a really nice man. I'd feel very comfortable with him helping me. Also attended a Ben Hart training session and would recommend him. Don't know where you're based but he's got a training day coming up in September in Oxford.

I used Michael Peace quite a few years back to do consolidation training with a young warmblood that I had just backed. The man is magic with horses. He gave a very talented, intelligent mare the best start she could possibly have had. She adored him and like FfionWinnie's experience with RM, what I learnt from Michael Peace changed my perceptions and has been used on subsequent horses.
Best money I ever spent, it was an investment.

A friend of mine had Richard Maxwell out to her horse to help with loading and standing in the trailer issues. She was pleased with him I think, however it cost her £350 for one visit and they didn't even get to the point where they could shut the trailer up completely. She is a rather 'special' mare though and she did manage to split RM's eyebrow open in the process!

My horse has previously had Richard Maxwell out for loading in a trailer and going into water. I found an invoice for it once amongst a load of stuff and it was about £700! (although i think he had gone to stay with him for two days..)

Water- he will go into water but can still be a little hesitant. For example- prefers to trot into it, takes a lot of leg to canter into it and then sometimes will leap. Although i appreciate, this is better than not going in at all!

Trailer- will load without a problem, but can soemtimes jump down the ramp when unloading.

Ive never met him though so couldnt comment on him personally. Echo the comments above though as ive heard nice things

He was sporting a scar on his eyebrow when I met him in June. I have heard though that he acquires a fair few injuries from his work.

Michael Peace - used him for a horse that was headshy and napped. both problems resolved or well on the road to resolution in one session. 8 months on you wouldn't know the mare used to be so headshy it was hard to bridle her and as for the napping - well she might still have the odd moment of telling me she would rather go home but its never an issue i can't deal with any more and it seems like she is better almost every tine she goes out now. Michael is very down to earth and patient - i would certainly recommend him. Richard Maxwell I don't know so well but generally respect his work the other two I have not heard of

Tim Piper and his wife Shirley are brilliant. I sent a mare to them and they sorted her. She had a bad start in life and was beyond me, very opinionated.

Tim treats each horse he comes across as an individual. I spent many hours watching him work horses other than my own. He is patient and considerate but doesn't take bulls*hit from the ones trying it on, he also involves chiropractors or other professionals if he feels appropriate.

I would highly recommend him.

I have seen Richard Maxwell work he's a good horseman with great timing hes sensible and will work to solve the problem he's given in a way you can apply and work with , from what I saw I think he would be great for your issue.

I have used both RM and MP, I have to say Richard maxwell gave me a horse I could do something with , I was duped by a dealer and vet . Vet was struck off but that's another story. Horse was so physically / physiologically messed up I was advised to have him shot. Anyway I preferred sending him to Max. Horse deserved a chance. Came away with a horse who could just about be ridden and lots of homework. Couple of years later max had moved so called Michael Peace out. Not impressed. Was put off because he turned up in his logo'd box and said he couldn't do anything in short space of time and needed to take horse to his yard( this before even meeting horse ). Felt he was more interested in money than horse. Then when helping get horse to stand at mounting block he hit
Him. When I objected he said he does things his way and that's it. I may have got him on a bad day because I've read others have had good results.

Richard maxwell was brilliant when I had him out to help me load my boy. Roughly 20 mins groundwork and then within the next 10-15 mins had him in the trailer. Showed me how to do it and he explained everything really well. Really friendly guy & would definitely get his help again if I needed it, well worth the money IMO. Cost me about £450 in June 2011, he was with us about 2&12 hours (did two sessions, small break in between for the horse) and part of the charge was due to him having to travel a fair distance to him.
