After a roller coster ride, I have just had a positive result on mare. She was AI'd rescently and had conceived twins! We had the smaller dot pinched and then was told on a follow up that it hadn't worked. Had to wait a further 10days with the thought that if there were two, we'd have to have them aborted. However, thankfully at the last scan ther is only one! I was so releived as the hole business has run up quite a bill! Now i am wondering what is the best suppliment to give. I have been recommended Zintec, but can't find any information about it. All information and advice on suppliments for pregnant mare would be welcome.

My mare was on TopSpec before even considering sending her to stud, so we kept her on it the whole time, and upped it during the last trimester and now she is feeding the filly.

in last month and after birth I think raspberry leaf is good for uterine health and vit E and selenium has been shown to increase antibodies in the milk. Spillers do a good booklet about feeding broodmare thro' to lactation, give them a ring and get them to send you one, whole bit on supplements

Hi Pitstop, Sorry to hear about all your mounting vets costs with your mare twinning & everything. I know it's such a worry when it starts getting complicated but hopefully it'll all run smoothly for you both now!

My mare (just confirmed in foal) has had some time off work whilst we've been getting her in foal and she typically looks huge after spending more time in the field. I don't usually give much hard feed in the summer as she's a good doer so just a handful of nuts & chaff but am feeding Equivite 'cos of the pregnancy 'til I increase her ration later in the year.

Will put onto stud cubes in Jan/Feb 09.

All the best
