I snaffled myself a bargain size 16 Dartmoor saddle just before xmas. Does any other make of pommel insert fit does anyone know? I might need an xw, currently has a wide in it.

I've used Barefoot pommels in my TreeFree.

If you DO need the XW pommel insert for your Dartmoor then do bear in mind that TreeFree's XW has a cut-away head on it which makes it much more comfy for the rider!!

I love the saddles these people do! I started off with an Exmoor saddle I'd bought on e-bay, then sold that for their "new" Tor saddle! Which I love.

Shame more people don't know about these lovely saddles.

I have a Tor but haven't faffed around with the pommel, as the extra wide seems fine for Foinavon. I love it.

did you go for the GP or dressage in the end? I had a 17” Exmoor but it was too long for pony although I did like it. This is ostensibly for a different pony as I also have a Ghost, which I love, but we’ll see how we get on. My second hand one is well used but has plenty of life left in it, always prefer knee rolls though.

It's the GP.

They made the panels slightly shorter than those on the trial saddles to be sure that it fit his back.

We had a Ghost on trial for a week as well, and neither myself nor the horse loved it. It is, however, fantastic that both Fran from Riding in Balance and Viking Saddlery let you do week-long trials. You get a much clearer sense of whether or not you've found the right saddle than you do when you've ridden in it for five minutes.

Can you just order a pommel insert from Viking Saddlery?

Thanks MiJods, I had it in my head that treefree pommels fitted torsion and therefore barefoot wouldn’t fit them ?‍♀️. I will bear in mind their own xw.

If you give them a ring (they are now at Moretonhampstead not at Buckfastleigh where they used to be!) they will be able to advise you; I've always found them very helpful.

(Edited: "Caol Ila" yes you can order from Viking direct if you need anything).

Hands up, I was being tight-their own pommels are quite spendy in comparison to Barefoot. Not at all sure I need to go up a size yet either -think it’s alright for one pony, possible not the other.
