I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if this point has already been made: I believe that people will want to watch videos of 'real life' murder (such as the stoning) because our society is becoming numbed to, and blase about, violence. I believe that one cause of this is the ever increasing violence and horror that is available in films, video games etc., and the increasingly young age from which children are exposed to it.
Even the news on TV doesn't shy away from graphic scenes, and we are all becoming inured to it. People are therefore demanding more and more extreme examples to get their kicks.
