Vile vile weather

That's interesting, I heard the noise but it didn't sound like a clap of thunder so I assumed it was a tractor and trailer passing by 🙄
Then I saw the flashes , but didn't get hailstones as other locally reported
It was very strange. We had a lot of cloud cover, so maybe that affected the sound.

I'm north of Doncaster and saw lightning about 8pm

Due more heavy rain with high wind allllllll day tomorrow. This really is feeling endless now.

I did manage to ride today but got absolutely soaked to the skin.

It is blowing and chucking it down this morning AGAIN the last week to 10 days it has been continually rain and wind with just one half decent day .After over 50 years of keeping horses I have never known it so bad for such an extended period after a rubbish summer even the dogs are reluctant fortunately we have an indoor sand school (floodlight so usable after dark ) I can let the dogs exercise in .

Rained last night and again this morning, went to let horse and pony out but after poo picking and realising it was like mush called them back in and they happily came straight back onto the concrete yard, they have ad lib haylage and nice shelter/bed. Its not often they truly look happy to be kept in !!

I tried to hack out yesterday but I felt so nervous I had to get off. I've hardly ridden in several weeks and the awful weather , just got on top of me.
Feeling disappointed in myself.

Don't do yourself down. My cob is the steadiest most sensible horse you could find, and even he was mincing along cringing and leaping at blue tits (no joke) when I hacked him out the other day. It was so profoundly un-fun so I've given up on riding until the rain and wind stop!

At one point he did a real teeth rattling up-and-down pogo stick spook just as we were coming into the village; I finally lost my rag and yelled "for f**k's sake just pack it in!" at him....then I realised there was somebody in their garden on the other side of the hedge. Ooops

He took off in the school a few weeks back, I came off and and broke my finger lol 😆
He's got girth sensitivity, I've since got him a longer girth and he's comfortable now but that experience unnerved me.

Just need this fekkin weather to calm down and get some riding miles under my bum again !

I’m on the south coast so admittedly haven’t had it as bad as some areas, but I am feeling a bit fed up with it now. Both horses are out 24/7 with access to stables, hay gets put inside, but every time I check the cameras they’re standing in looking miserable. Haven’t ridden the Welsh in weeks and although she’s normally quite good in the wind we have a lot of wooded areas to go through to get to anywhere decent and it’s a bit unnerving. One paddock is now being rested and is the most dry one as it’s stripped bared from where I tried to keep them on as long as possible. The second small paddock is now getting muddy, the one they’re currently on. Was hoping to save the third for mid January but I don’t think that’s going to be happening. Need to redo all the tape round the edges of the field as it’s stretched from the wind, but it’s not particularly appealing when it’s gale force winds and sideways rain. So difficult to know what to do for the best. Invested in an equidry which has been a godsend, but my car and house are a state and there’s mud everywhere. This winter feels like it’s lasted forever already ☹️

When I really lost my confidence (bad accident with another horse, not this one) I found that picking my battles was key....I only hacked out alone (my big fear) when it was sunny and calm and I was feeling good. If I was already feeling wobbly because of bad weather or a bad day, I didn't do it. So I think that waiting until you have a fighting chance of getting quiet happy miles on the clock is sensible.

I've been at rock bottom after breaking my back and have come a long way since , yesterday I felt like I went backwards and back into the bad place, hence I'm disappointed.
You're right , I need to get some relaxed hacking under me in conditions a bit better than these !

Yep, had some snow today.

My next novel is going to be a comedy called "Weegies in the Snaw." Naebody can drive, everyone has a meltdown, and it happens like the law of gravity every year.

we have just had never ending wind and rain just wind rain wind rain wind rain wind rain. And it was mostly dry for two weeks before this!

It's still blowing really hard here, glass panels on the green house have blown in and smashed. Relentless, horizontal rain. Horses are out in the better draining, most sheltered of the fields, but the lower part is underwater, and the drainage channels running down it resembles raging rivers. Horses and sheep are utterly fed up. Arab x girly was shivering earlier. Gave them a small bale of hay to fuel their furnaces (these ones weigh about 35kg, they've been well baled 😅), they've just been on grass up til now, but it's all flattened or drowned. The boyo and sheep started munching, she dug it out, laid down on it then started eating. This winter can go away now please!

How many 100% dry days have we had since the beginning of July? It feels like after a dry June it has rained every day since at some point in the day, Moss is growing on every surface, everything is permanently wet, I've got so much grass I don't know what to do with it, but the ground is too wet to let anyone else graze it for me. I'm so fed up & seriously questioning the sanity of keeping horses.
It didn't stop raining until late April, so that's only 2 months of decent riding weather this year, is it worth it 😪

Been blowing an absolute hooley here on the S. Devon coast this afternoon, with heavy rain forecast at 6pm.

It arrived a minute ahead of schedule ... 🙄

(at least the log burner is going and heating us, the radiators and the water nicely! 😊)

There are some interesting/depressing stats here .... https://www.met.reading.ac.uk/weatherdata/Reading_monthly_summaries.html It is for Reading but I would guess that is fairly representative of other parts of the country. It's no wonder we are all fed up.
