I think I am being labelled thus by the residents of my village!

You see, they just can't figure out why I appear to be taking my horse (and occasionally, horses) out for a walk!

For me, it is pretty simple. Mr G is finally being brought back into work after spraining his pastern back in August, which rather devastatingly stopped us from competing at HOYS :( Vet has okayed me to ride, but tbh hacking out in walk for 20 - 30 mins don't seem to be worth getting the tack out for, so instead, I have been walking him out in hand, which is rather nice and beneficial in terms if fitness for us both. After two weeks or so, he is now starting to do small sections of trot, so I'm running with him too :D Mostly we head out on my normal run circuit, so I'm thinking at some point in the future, he might jog it all with me.....!

Today we (OH walking Pie Face - who likes coming out too for the occasional shufty - me and G) bumped into a lady from the village walking the same route and she was most perplexed as to what we were doing. We duly explained and had a laugh, then had to explain it all over again, a number of times as we bumped into different folk. There is a fair bit of curtain twitching going on through the village!

I still think it is a nice, non-stressful way to get through boring walk work though! Will back hop on when we can go further and faster!

I get this regularly ..... in our old village my daft donkey was affectionately nicknamed the "overgrown black lab" by a lot of the villagers. Since we`ve moved i just holler a cheery "good morning" as i wander past most folk lol ...... Yes, i enjoy riding, but i enjoy walking them out just as much. Plus with 2 youngsters, it has given them a lot of confidence too :)

I got this a lot when I was walking my mare out the week after she had a nasty colic episode. There was a lot of "you know you're supposed to ride them" and one woman genuinely asked me if I knew that was a horse I was walking and wouldn't a dog be nicer? Really love I must have mistaken my cremello connemara mare for my black and white husky, what a doorknob I am.

I walk my youngster out as well to get him out and seeing stuff, he's gets a better response though because he's tiny and people don't seem to expect me to ride him.

i've had a lot of stares long reigning my boy! personally i quite like taking them out in hand. i also ride and lead one. i got the most looks taking my spotty mare for a walk in hand while i couldn't ride, as it looked like i was taking my giant dalmatian for a walk.

Our claim to fame is that whenever we go through a village, Shy stops to mug pensioners :o. He knows they always have a polo, a cough sweet or will give him a big fuss. The only time he has rejected attention is when he was given a Fisherman's Friend .

I often just take mine for a walk. Don't see what the big hoo ha is, really. I've been stopped, too. Today I just wasn't up to riding, so took Henry for a walk. Felt better for it and I'm sure he appreciated the change of scenery! A friend of mine always walks her boy, too. In theory she can ride now, but chooses not to as she enjoys walking in hand so much!

I love taking my Tiny Fuzzy for a walk - and she loves yomping in the woods opposite the yard :)
Recently I've been taking her on a LR from FLF as my ankle has been giving me some stick & limiting the walking.
This has gone fine, except the fuzzies wanted to dictate the route on Friday last - so we ended up doing nearly 40 mins including a good canter & 3 or 4 trots.

1 very baffled male dog walker asked if the little one was a baby learning (TF is 8) which produced a grin & an explanation.
Then we got held up by an errant toddler who ran across the track to try to give TF a cuddle, TF not bothered, but the mother was so worried that 'it might bite or stamp or stamp on child. Luckily both girls had ground to a halt to greet 'their public' :biggrin3: and a few pats were had.

Note to self: do not attempt to go out over the xmas holidays doing this, without allowing a monumental amount of time, as TF is a pretty good time waster when meeting 'her public' ..............

I used to take a sec a out inhand and people would say they thought she was a dog from far away. Really, all 11hh of her??
