I have had this riding hat hanging around for a while and was going to chuck it out. but my mum thinks it may be worth a little bit so i thought i would ask everyone before it goes in the bin lol!

Its black with an elastic strap to go under your chin. Inside is gold with a label saying
'Establishes in 1778
Thos Townsend & Co Lime Street
Made in England'

It also has a dawstring to alter it inside bit

I have to say I do not know anything about vintage riding hats but the inside of the hat looks quite special compared to modern hats. I would not throw it away though, could you not put it on EBAY instead and let buyers decide if it has a value?

Just looks like an ordinary riding hat of 1970's-1980's vintage to me, sorry I don't think it's anything special.
However, I agree that on e-bay there are people that have an interest in all sorts of things!

I am a vintage clothing dealer (this is what I do for a living) and I get offered these ALOT. LOL, they think because this is my business and that I'm "into horses" that I can sell them and that they are worth a fortune.

The only hunt caps that sell for alot are antique ones from the 19th and early 20th centuries but these aee constructed nothing like modern ones and are mostly sold to fox hunter memorabilia collectors (I collect antique side saddle habits and stuff so I don't bother with them).

There are loads of these vintage hunt caps around and you can try and sell it on Ebay. A pub landlord may buy it for decoration or a movie/theatre company for an actor's costume if it's a good size (like size 7 and up). I've seen these sell anywhere from £5- £20 depending on condition and size but make sure you put loads of disclaimers in your auction that they are NOT approved and are not safe to ride in so you don't get some compensation claim trigger happy numpty buy one to ride in.
