Virtual hugs badly needed :'(

Well! Had the saddle fitter out for Sydney today and all was well until it was time to get on.

I always knew he had a problem with mounting blocks.. just a bit scared i suppose. But has always been fine with a leg up.

He hadn't been ridden or sat on for 3 weeks so a gave him a good long lunge this afternoon before the saddle fitter arrived and all was well.. no bronks, bucks.. anything! As good as gold.

So i was given a leg up, very carefully and slowly.
Sat in the saddle and he lurched forward.. tried to get my feet quickly into the stirrups before anything happened but before i knew it he was galloping off, bronking like mad, with me on him and no stirrups. I thought for a brief second that i would be able to gather him up and calm him down but no.

Before i knew it i was thrown up and forward and had no chance! Did a somersault over his head and landed on mine.
In his freak out he kicked me on my thigh.

Looked up and all i could see was him galloping around the arena bronking like a loony.

I have grazes all over me, can't lift my arm up without it hurting and a huge bruise already forming on my thigh.

I'm not going to give up on him, no way.
I never back away from a challenge.
I'm giving benefit of the doubt this time as it was dark, scary and he's still a baby.

I just can't stop crying though and i'm in so much pain

This is definatley my worst fall yet. My mum honestly thought i would of broken my neck the way i landed.. yet it doesn't even hurt!

Just wish i'd got in on video, it would of been some impressive fall

Silly i know lol.

Oh and I just want to thank the saddle fitter, he was so lovely and understanding and helped me with him.
 
big sympathy and gentle virtual hugs. lots of arnica, ice packs on bruise as long as skin not broken.
try not to dwell on it, sounds like a moment of craziness because he hadn't been sat on for weeks... was this your usual saddle first, btw?
 
Poor you, don't cry it happens to us all and will me next week when I get on my youngster who needs a new saddle dreading it. She hasn't been ridden since before christmas.

You did all you could forget and move on and don't sit their 'what iffing' Good luck hun sending hugs.

No, but saddle fitter is coming back once i have a day off school so he can do it in daylight

Myself and YO will put one of her old synthetics on him and work a bit with him in it, just leaning on it in the meantime.

P.S - just to say dont do the "what if" thing.... My youngster had a benny and bronked me off at the end of last year, i broke lots of ribs....

It is fair to say it hurts not only your body but also your confidence. Just take it steady and you will be fine. Just dont expect too much of yourself

Go to hospital and get checked out specially neck.
2) Large jar of Arnica, you will need it.
Many ((((hugs)))))
3)Large warm numnah next time, sounds like he could be cold backed.
 
Oh poor you! It must have been horrid for you, like the previous poster said maybe you should get yourself checked over at the docs.

I know exactly how you feel, i came off my new boy on NYE out hacking and the little b****r galloped all the way home without me! Arnica and rest and you will be fine. They do test us don't they?! Take care xx
 
I had a friend who used to ride a mare who used to do this when you mounted her. In the end, as it was a bad habit, I suggested she put a headcollar on over the bridle, tie her up short to the wall outside the stable and then get on her. She would then reach forward and unbuckle the headcollar and ride away. It worked and got her out of the habit! There was nothing physically wrong, she had learnt this from her racing days and could not have a jockey on till she was in the stalls!
