Just to be clear this isn't a post about rights and wrongs of riding in lockdown
This morning I had a virtual lesson with Jonty Evans. We did it through Facebook and my hubby very kindly held my phone while I rode with Blue Tooth headphones and Jonty watched on his laptop and spoke to me. The technology worked really well.
I was nervous to be riding infront of a big name but Jonty was lovely and he had a really easy teaching style, clear and encouraging. I really appreciated him taking the time to teach me as I would never normally be able to have a lesson from someone like him.
He mentioned what he does when he trains with Carl. This made me smile because we all know who Carl is!
We worked on getting a better connection between my horse and I. We did this by getting him to be more reactive off less leg. Also keeping him balanced in the walk/trot transitions because he has a big trot and can set off tipped forward to balance himself. We then worked on inside and outside flexion on a circle with variations within the pace in trot and canter. I got a lot out of it and now have loads to focus on which will help me keep motivated whilst everything is so restricted. He said I should have another lesson in a few weeks to show him the improvements.
I thoroughly recommend having a go, if you can. I know it was only a lesson but it a was a brilliant way, just for an hour, to focus on something complete different to everything else going on at the moment.
