I found out around 8 weeks ago that my WB was suffering from a virus he had very low white cells. So i bought a good Vit/ Min supplement & Vet re-tested every week, he had 4 weeks off in total.
3 weeks ago horse started acting like his normal self. So i phoned the vet & we re-tested & he was just off normal on White cells. But we would re-test again in 2 weeks, ive just had the results & he has dropped again but is acting normal. Vets says around 10% lower than normal atm.
This could be normal apparently as some horse are like this & it would tie to this horse as he has had good energy days & bad over the last 3 years ive owned him.

So Vet has suggested Red Cell, is there anything else that i could use to help him immune system??? Or if you've been through this what did you use???

I did reply on my other post, but thought you may see it here sooner...

The one I have just put Grace on is from New Zealand is is apparently one of the strongest concentrates you can buy at the moment... HERE is the website and some further information.

Grace has only been on it for two days, so I cannot give you a real idea of whether it is working, but she seems brighter this evening and I intend on keeping her on it for a good couple of months.

My friend has the Equus Health franchise up here, so I know you can get it via them through THIS website.

what do you mean to boost the immune system i used echinesea like a lot of people do you can get it from health shops

i'm trying a vit and mineral supplement by net-ex called pick me up. has added iron and echinacea (how DO you prenounce that?!) and over 20 minerals and vits. my boys a bit down at the mo, with blood results similar to yours. let us know how you get on with whatever you choose. i purchased mine from an ebay shop, it is being delivered today so i'm hoping it will pep him up a little bit.

Hi, thanks everyone. Ive spoken to Hilton Herbs this morning & im going with there Equimmune Gold. I have been giving him Echinacea but the above product has loads of other stuff in it as well. So fingers crossed Hilton Herbs has never let me down before.

Ive also spoke to my Vet again as this horse has Gastro problems as well it's got worse since he's had this virus

. So ive bought some Acid ease this morning, hopefully i can resolve his long term Gastro problems as well as the Virus thats constantly hanging round.

Fingers crossed. Tallyhohoho & Jetset hope your horses pick up soon. I never thought it would be so on-going with my Boy.

Pink powder and Visorbin (iron and vit/min) supplement was what the Royal vet college head equine vet suggested for my big chap who had a recurring virus (low white counts etc), it came back periodically over about 18 months every few months, nightmare.

The pink powder is cheap and effective for the tum, he is doing great on it, you feed more to start with to help them get on the right track and then at maintenance level.
The Visorbin you can just go through a bottle and then not any more until/unless they seem off colour again. Horse loved the visorbin, sweet green gloop yum!

Hi thanks, he's just finished a tub of Pink Powder & it's during this time that his bloods went worse. So i guess it's not really working for him.

Will try the Visorbin though.

Ive been told to keep my horse in work he had 4 weeks off & then ive brought him back slowly under vets instructions. Last night it was like riding a ticking time bomb so he's not really showing this Virus now at all but his bloods are, maybe it is normal for him. But the only way i can find out is by keep going & getting him mega fit again & then re-testing bloods. Obviously if the horse does show any signs the vet is to be called straight away.

There is a virus around at the moment which affects the lymphatic sytem - it shows up as a low white cell count plus the horse looks a little bit off colour with occasional sweats - then periods with the horse looking quite perky.

It has affected quite a number of horses in Belgium, all you can do is keep your horse warm and comfortable in the stable with lots of fliud. A blood tonic like Red Cell will help for a short time and neither will immune boosting herbs help whilst the virus is present - the horse 's immune system has to fight the invaders hence the low white cell count. Be patient - it could take 3 months but if you don't take it slow the virus won't go and your horse won't feel at his best when competing. Its a waiting game.

I have pm'd you with advice I was given last year for the same thing.
The ingriedients you should be looking at feeding are Vitamin E, vitamin C, and Echinacea. Worked wonders on my boy.
