Well, as some of you know, I stopped riding Ben about 10 days ago when I noticed his caps were shifting on his secondary incisors, but I wasn't altogether sure if there may be a problem and one was being retained so I thought I'd bring the dentist in for a check... So very glad I did.
EDT gave the caps the all clear... He says they just have a way to go and are not retained so he will come back around feb/march if they have not fallen off.
On the other hand his mouth really needed the attention... Whilst he wasn't sharp five months ago when his wolf teeth were removed his teeth were floated but they were fine... Roll on a few months and he has sharp bits all over and a couple of ulcers
there were no outward signs of this, no quidding or reluctance to eat... Any funniness on the bridle was put down to his being a baby. What has happened was that he was floated and then he lost all his caps... The teeth underneath came through sharp... Bless him.
It is all sorted now and he must feel so much more comfortable, he is tucked up nice and warm in the stable for the rest of the day while the sedaline wears off and is happily eating his hay... Tomorrow we can have a little pootle out and about.
So, a message to all with youngsters... As soon as they shed their caps on their molars, get their teeth checked... They may be fine but when Ben lost his it exposed sharp edges that needed to be treated.
