Today. He had to come up from the field to have his teeth done and was not amused at having his day interrupted. He looks very well though, the vet who did his teeth was lovely with him and gave him a bit of bute afterwards incase his gums were sore. The yard though are amazing. He really is so well cared for. They know them all and care really is individualized. One old boy has no teeth so has to winter on mash so he has to live in then.He goes out in the summer because can manage the grass.Another one struggles to keep weight on so he lives in a small barn with a pony friend.I am very happy with the lovely old age they are giving my old boy!

I visited my old lad at the weekend and I've never seen him happier. He gets to bimble around in a large field but also has access to a barn and haylage. It is entirely his choice whether he is in or out. He mainly chooses to be out. He has 3 other geldings for companionship and is checked on twice a day.
When he was younger he really enjoyed his work and all the attention he got being stabled. But, as a retired old fella he really does enjoy this more natural way of living. I may have to travel nearly an hour to see him so can't go every day, but it is one of the best decisions I made with regard to retiring him.
