Hi all - we 're venturing over to Newmarket on sat 9th Nov, my OH is playing hockey so we have a couple of hours to kill. I'd love to visit a racing stables/racing museum (?) with the kids - can you recommend anywhere to good to go please?

The Horse Racing museum in the high street is a must. Also, just up the road is tattersalls. Not sure if there are any sales on at the moment, but do go and have a look, its amazing how many boxes they have,.

There used to be a tour that you could go on from the racehorse museum, it was amazing, we went to a few yards, saw the horses being exercised on the heath, and it also included free entry to the museum.

The museum is very good, especially if Alfie is there. He is an ex jockey and knows all there is to know about racing, and is usually found in the room with the mechanical horse, where he will give you a lesson.
The cakes in the cafe are also pretty good!

Depending on what time you go, watch the horses being exercised on the gallops. They start around 6am and some are still on the track at 10. There's usually hundreds if you go early enough. There's also a great tack shop on the high-street.

Thanks Flowersblossom, will try and get there before 10 to see horses on the gallops. All of the stable/stud tours have finished for the winter unfortunately so I think that is the only way we'll get to see the horses.

OH won't be happy about the tack shop :-)
