I wouldn't recommend it. My new computer has Vista, I think it is slower than XP, but in most respects it is easy to use and follows the usual Windows format. Supposed to be better for multimedia stuff.
Vista is still new and I am sure there will be stuff to sort out, so don't be in a rush to get it until it is better established
Hi, we just bought a laptop with Vista on it. To be honest, I haven't really noticed any improvement, looks a bit 'prettier' but not a big difference in my opinion. Maybe I'm just not 'techy' enough to notice any difference! There are quite a few incompatibility problems though - some functions on Word don't work and some other programs don't work at all (e.g SPSS statistics program I sometimes use). I think it still has quite a few problems that need to be sorted, and to be honest if I had the choice I would wait a bit!
But ... as I have said ... I am not a computer geek so I might have it completely wrong!
Very pretty, some lovely "toys" but still new and buggy.
If you dont need to upgrade I wouldnt untill service pack 2 is out for it(normally about a year after release).
Once the kinks are worked out, it will be a much smarter OS then XP,for now,XP gives less headaches.
I have vista- and it can be useful- I find it easier to flip from one open program to the other- I have to say I do not find it slower at all- but my lap top is very powerful, Vista has a lot of useles bits that you need to deactivate to help speed up you PC like the clock/news/picture/counter on the main screen. I find it simple and easy to use, BUT most of the improvements are just cosmetic lol. I also find that it is much easier to connect to printers/projectors etc using it, as it almost works things out for itself. However, i am a mac fan tbh as windows will never compare!
The vista ones, are slow (despite super hardware), they crash and seize up. They don't work with half our stuff (Simple DVD roms, though to media centres and PVR boxes)
I only upgraded as my sister works for M$ and it was cheap.... now wish I hadn't! Lost functionality on graphics card and various other really really really annoying things.... bring on service pack 1!!!
Odd, shoudlnt be slowing pc down.
Only thing I can think of is lack of RAM, Vista uses 1gb to run all features smothly so you really need at least 2.
3 plus and everything runs like a dream
thanks.
son has just got a new pc and it appears slim-line and nifty.(see how tecnical i am?)
makes this one look prehistoric.not that i am likely to rush into anything.
