Is their such a thing? My mare goes loopy if I add any magnesium to her feed so I'd rather avoid it if I can.

However, she isn't doing so well on a balancer any more (coat just not as shiny as usual although still her sparky self!), so I'm changing from:

Lo Cal Balancer
Hi Fi Senior
Fast Fibre

to

Grass pellets
Honey Chop Lite & Healthy.

So I need to add a vit & min supplement but they all seem to contain at least some magnesium.

For info, she is a 25 year old welsh cob. She is not a good doer but during the summer months I prefer to give her less hard feed and more grass to keep her weight up. She cannot eat hay any more. She is still in light work.

Thanks. :)

I took mine off their balancer last year and now add individual items the main diet is
Grass nuts and grass chaff then add linseed, brewers yeast and salt
I have noticed that they all have glossy coats and hooves are rock sold especially the barefoot

Thanks. Sounds like I'm right to change from a balancer then

She wouldn't touch linseed when we tried it before but maybe I should give it another go.

Thunderbrooks Daily essentials - the magnesium it contains is chelated, its likely to me magnesium oxide which makes your mare go mad.
Mine is a hot cookie and stuff like NAF Magic (magnesium based) and any other 'calming' supplement sent her bonkers - Magnesium. she is absolutely fine on the daily essentials though.
