someone posted a while back that vitamin b makes a horses blood bitter which would discourage flies from biting.
has any one tried it ? does it work ??

surely the flies have got to bite to see if the horse is 'bitter'
I was thinking of trying brewers yeast tablets (only because ive got some handy)
looking for advice/past experiences before i try it.

I have wondered this in the past as I take complex vit b when i go on hol and never get bitten, it gives an odour on your skin that repels them, not sure if it would work on horses??

vitiman b tablets for horses yes it does work nd if they do get bitten the dont react to the bite and it dont usually swell up like it wouuld if your were not given vit b try it dont buy the exspensive just the normall human stuff! 2 morning and night!

I've been giving my boy brewers yeast since spring - he still gets bites, but they dont swell up massively like they did last year when he wasnt on it.... I ran out a while back and he went a couple of weeks without while it was being ordered in and after about a week of no brewers yeast, the bits of him sticking out from his fly rug were covered in massive swellings from bites!! a couple of weeks after being back on it (nothing else changed...) he was back to having just a few little bites....

I wouldnt just rely on the supplement alone though... He has fly spray and a fly rug on all the time too!!

Vitamin B and Garlic are the best fly repellent 'vitamin/mineral things!' that you can feed so go ahead! Other than that to apply to the coat, citronella is best and tea tree oil is quite effective and a good antiseptic if they do get bitten.

thanks everyone for your replies.
have i missed anything ??
