As title really, we have a 20mth vizsla bitch and we would love to get a second. Has anyone any experience with introducing a second ginger ninja into the house? Is jealousy an issue? Would introducing a pup be more straightforward than an older animal?

We have got into a great routine which involves two either fast (on bicycles!) or long (45mins) walks a day and a lunchtime toilet break (and cuddle!) so Nala is only left alone for max 3hrs at a time- which she seems very content with!

Is getting a second beasty likely to cause chaos with this sort
of arrangement? Clearly if we got a pup she couldn't go out until she was vaccinated and couldn't cope with this level of exercise until she was more grown up, but we could easily facilitate this.

So what do you think? Good plan or bad plan? Thanks

My Parents have 6 dogs, they reckon the minimum age gap you want between dogs is 2 years, makes it easier for you as you don't have two young dogs driving you up the wall and leading each other astray, also means that you don't have two dogs which suddenly get old together.

So I would say 20 months would be fine, as long as your prepared for your house to be turned upside down again, you'll be fine

Oh ali, please please please pm me! Would you consider an older one? 18 months old. Was just about to put a post up and then spied this. Shes not far from you either. Actually, I'm PMing you now!

A friend got a young Vizsla to keep the (much) older one company after it's companion died.

No problems at all.

My mother had one 2.5 yr old dog, left on his own after her old boxer died. She got a rescue Viszla who was 18mnths old - they are brilliant together - one session of walking round each other, then they went to sleep in the same bed that night - no probs at all. works very well - stops the original one being quite so obsessed with my mother, being her shadow and means he gets more exercise, playing with his new friend, rather than just structured walks . Winner all round.

You'd be fine with more than one female especially a Viz. I have Wire Viz's, we have 8 WVs and 6 of those are girlies - they live fine together as do the 2 entire males. They in turn live with my 3 JRTs, 2 girls and a boy

Hey I breed them so have a houseful...they are such an affectionate breed who love company and mine all get on great, even with our two others who are not Vizzies. It more depends on how you introduce them, not age IMO. Mine are always very well socialised and learn to accept other dogs being around. Personally I think the worst thing you can do is buy two litter mates, they are more likely to fall out and I would never sell 2 at the same time to one owner if that makes sense. Good luck x
