Don't worry, we'll get to the vomit soon enough - though I suspect you can probably guess
Today DP and I traipsed off to Isleham in the baking heat for our fortnightly attempt at eventing. The cross country course felt a bit back-and-forth but bang on in terms of technicality with the only concern being the infamous Isleham ditch. The show jumping also looked fine but as we know that means nothing to D!
I decided on a short warm up for dressage and was rewarded with a supple test for 31, just needing more engagement in the hind quarters and a bit more jump in the canter - thankfully all things we're already working on at home
Next up was what the OH calls 'the fun bit', i.e. the part where he routinely gets to watch me crash through things or fall on my ass. To try and avoid the afford mentioned embarrassment D got two sharp cracks on the backside as we entered the warm up and there was no let up for her until after her round. She ballooned over one, jumped two and three beautifully, backed off the very bright carrots at four but decided that the crack on the arse she received for her trouble was more scary than the fence and then stopped at 5. For once I didn't panic and rush to represent, instead giving her a good telling off which my instructor would have been proud of and represented her with he really powering forward. Thankfully it did the trick as she then cleared 5, 6, 7 and then final fence at 8
Unfortunately my stomach disagreed with D's success and decided to dump my breakfast all over myself and my horse - apologies to anyone that had to observe that particular spectacle! :O
Soon enough we were under starters orders for XC and with my cardigan on (turns out you ave to have long sleeves for PC eventing
) we were ready. 3 - 2 - 1 - Go! Over fence one with gusto, bit of a wobble to the oxer in the trees at two but over it cleanly, 3, 4 and 5 came up quickly but we got over them with lots of vocal encouragement (appologies to anyone in earshot
) and then we were at the water at 7. Unfortunately another horse had stopped here so we had to over take them, something that is never great fun on a nappy horse. D managed to keep it together through the first water and then the second but unfortunately the heat and the horse behind her just proved too much when we got to the ditch at 10. I managed to get her over it on the second presentation but decided that discretion was the better part of valour and retired after the next fence.
All in all I was pleased with D's attitude and am certain we've both taken positive things away from today. Plus I got to eat two Callipo ice lollies in the sun which always makes for a good day
Over and out,
V and DP
