Don't worry, we'll get to the vomit soon enough - though I suspect you can probably guess ;)

Today DP and I traipsed off to Isleham in the baking heat for our fortnightly attempt at eventing. The cross country course felt a bit back-and-forth but bang on in terms of technicality with the only concern being the infamous Isleham ditch. The show jumping also looked fine but as we know that means nothing to D!

I decided on a short warm up for dressage and was rewarded with a supple test for 31, just needing more engagement in the hind quarters and a bit more jump in the canter - thankfully all things we're already working on at home :)

Next up was what the OH calls 'the fun bit', i.e. the part where he routinely gets to watch me crash through things or fall on my ass. To try and avoid the afford mentioned embarrassment D got two sharp cracks on the backside as we entered the warm up and there was no let up for her until after her round. She ballooned over one, jumped two and three beautifully, backed off the very bright carrots at four but decided that the crack on the arse she received for her trouble was more scary than the fence and then stopped at 5. For once I didn't panic and rush to represent, instead giving her a good telling off which my instructor would have been proud of and represented her with he really powering forward. Thankfully it did the trick as she then cleared 5, 6, 7 and then final fence at 8 :D Unfortunately my stomach disagreed with D's success and decided to dump my breakfast all over myself and my horse - apologies to anyone that had to observe that particular spectacle! :O

Soon enough we were under starters orders for XC and with my cardigan on (turns out you ave to have long sleeves for PC eventing ;) ) we were ready. 3 - 2 - 1 - Go! Over fence one with gusto, bit of a wobble to the oxer in the trees at two but over it cleanly, 3, 4 and 5 came up quickly but we got over them with lots of vocal encouragement (appologies to anyone in earshot ;) ) and then we were at the water at 7. Unfortunately another horse had stopped here so we had to over take them, something that is never great fun on a nappy horse. D managed to keep it together through the first water and then the second but unfortunately the heat and the horse behind her just proved too much when we got to the ditch at 10. I managed to get her over it on the second presentation but decided that discretion was the better part of valour and retired after the next fence.

All in all I was pleased with D's attitude and am certain we've both taken positive things away from today. Plus I got to eat two Callipo ice lollies in the sun which always makes for a good day :D

Over and out,
V and DP

That's really bad luck V, but good on you for making that decision. LOL at you puking after the sj, Omg, hope you had plenty of water on the lorry

Always! My friend has insisted that I add sick bags to my ODE packing list and that I carry one on me at all times when show jumping :p

Arg, dude, that made me howl!

Love the pics, and the successes. And that I'm not the only person on the verge of throwing up where SJ is concerned!

Well done you. I was at Isleham and didn't get over no.5 in the showjumping!! so a big fat E and they wouldn't let me go XC which was bit mean because a few years ago I was eliminated in SJ on a different horse and they let me run XC( Is there a pattern emerging) Anyway brilliant job for getting over the ditch, I was looking forward to that challenge

That sucks :( We regularly get eliminated SJing so I feel you pain, I entered Isleham hopping that if I did get E'd they'd let me run so sucks that they didn't for you :( Where are you off to next?

Yikes, I hope you managed to wipe it off before you went XC! I regularly feel queasy but you've really gone the extra mile there by depositing your stomach contents whilst riding. Glad you had a confidence giving round, I admire your dedication and great to hear things are improving (exc vomitness).

I do think there ought to be some sort of award persistence.

I think it's called the stupidity award ;) I figure round here there are enough pony club odes that don't cost much more than a dressage test so I'm as well doing an ODE dressage test as a BD one :) I'm also hoping that at some point the work we're putting in at home and the improvements being made there (now confidently jumping 90/95cm courses and 100/105 grids with no sign of stops) will magically transfer over - doubtful but I can hope ;)

My very disgusted groom washed the horse off as I washed my mouth out ;)

But why were you sick AFTER you had finished?! This makes no sense. I think you were actually hungover.

Ahh so it's not just me. I'm impressed you even have photographic evidence of the ditch jumping.
Not sure where to go next, maybe back to Ickworth ODE. What about you?

Has that not already been? Looking at it we probably won't be out again until Poplar Park at the end of June

Yes, there was one last weekend, and we had two stops in the SJ but flew the XC. There is another one in August I think. Do you mean the RC thing at Poplar?

Ah, OK, yes I'll probably head there too. And yup, the RC is an open event so thought that might be nice.

Hahaha I wasn't that disgusted.... I just did my usual trick of I'll deal with the horse and you can deal with yourself..... I'm not very good with people, ill, injured or completely fine!! :P
