VOSA Lorry checks....just been pulled over, reminder to carry passport

another question what do you do if you loan the horse as your name will clearly not be on the passport then but it isn't for hire or reward as you don't get paid anything infact you do all the paying

HH recently did a feature where people asked this very question of taking a 'friends' horse in their lorry regularly.

The legal answer was to get legal advice and for you to get care custody and control insurance.

It is getting a legal minefield out there!!!!

I was called to VOSA check point to pick up horses as they had impounded the lorry-I did not ask the in/outs of it all but it did look suspicuously as an 'illegal transporter' even though the lady tried to explain to vosa there were no passports and I think she dug herself into a bigger hole!!!!! she would not give details of the horses owners so I was instructed to take to the local vets where they would keep the horses until ownership could be proved!

To answer the loan question-keep a copy of the loan agreement with the passport then you can prove that you have the horse legally!

Its comforting to know that we are such a crime-free country that they can worry about major crimes like these!
