vote on hunting after the next election

I'm another who wouldn't vote for them anyway unless they radically changed their policies on the NHS etc... But for what it's worth I did think they'll actually call a vote and I don't think they should, I'm fairly pro hunting but the dust has settled now why stir it.

This - I've always thought that pro-hunters are attempting a complete own goal when they campaign for repeal. Most in this country don't realise how lax the current law is and what it allows. They live in blissful ignorance believing that foxes are now saved from being chased for miles. Hunting goes on, it continues and you all can still have fun. I really fail to see how this isn't the best of both worlds - the average person (ie. anti-hunting) thinks everything is hunky dory, while hunters can still hunt and farmers can keep their fox numbers down. Why would anyone draw attention to this massive loophole?

As to whether it should be on the Tory manifesto, FFS we have far more important things to deal with right now. Although, if it angers enough people to stop them voting Tory, then I may be right behind them :p

great post. the only people desperate for repeal are those who remain completely out of touch with the world around them-they'd have to be mad to drag this up again. I think they will lose votes on it tbh, people care more about fluffy critturs than the disabled.
 
I don't believe hunting stopped did it ? especially on private land, oh we're just exercising the hounds, yeh right

I agree they need to controlled but that can be done without all the pomp

Did they not poison and snare before hunting with hounds was banned? Hunts only hunt in winter, birds are bred and/or shot all year round.

I cannot understand why snares are legal, they are disgusting things :(

The ban made no difference here. It's a fox-free zone and always has been. The shoots are big business, so a fox could do £'000s of damage in one night easily. I also think the gamekeepers would poison walkers on public footpaths if they thought they could get away with it ;)

Ho hum....this was in the manifesto. TM is simply reiterating what was already there and the press have seized on it (which judging by the comments on here, was a smart move). As for the comment on "boys jobs/girls jobs", that had been taken out of context. It was simply in her house chores are divided - just like in most people's houses. I always mow the lawn at mine, OH does all the pruning..

I support hunting, but I strongly suspect this is simply the press grabbing something to virtually use as click bait. It really is not going to be at the forefront of the campaign. All I can see (depressingly) is the opposition making huge rash promises which they know they will never have to deliver on.

I cannot believe that anyone would not vote on the strength of whether or not foxes can be hunted. Really, Wagtail and Southerncomfort, is that the only law you are worried about? I couldn't give a flying rats backside about foxes in relation to the state of education/ the NHS etc, I really couldn't. Stop watching those Disney movies and start reading the news!
 
Shouldn't be a priority but I'm sure a subtle dismantling of the Act can be achieved. And would be the right thing to do.
 
I hunted before the ban and it wouldn't worry me to see it repealed but this is an awful time to decide to bring the subject up and could well cost them the votes they need to stay in control.
I really don't think that the majority of people in the country do support hunting foxes with hounds, there's even plenty of people who are now happily trail hunting who don't support it.
 
Well if it loses them some votes I'm all for Theresa May bringing it up. Quite honestly I couldn't give a stuff - as Clodagh says, there are far more important problems to worry about in this country at present. Round here repealing the ban would make no difference anyway. The hunts have carried on as before. Far more pressing uses for the time and money which will be wasted on this. I wonder what she's trying to distract from this time?

I had a debate with a family member the other night on Facebook about the hunting ban.
Had to explain that just because the ban is in place doesn't mean the foxes are saved. You can still hunt them with a gun and single dog at foot etc. They didn't even know that.


I wonder who pointed to the information about the repealing of the ban. It's beenough in all of the manifesto for how ever many times why is it being dragged out this time.
More important things going on
 
Nobody who followed a hunt gave a flying .... about whether the fox lived or died before the ban - it was all for the ride across country, a meet up with our mates and a reason to get a bit tipsy early in the day, so lets just let sleeping foxes lie. Leave the ban as it stands or we could very easily end up with absolutely nothing.
 
If a bill to repeal the Act is introduced it will be for one reason & one reason only - to create enough hullabaloo to distract from really important issues.
Personally I suspect that Theresa May rarely gives any thought to hunting & couldn't give a stuff about it but thought mentioning it might be a way to make sure a mostly Tory section of society is guaranteed to turn out on polling day.
 
Not worth stirring up the hornets nest.. If a Conservative government repealed it, the next Labour government would really ban it, as in no hunting whatsoever. Keep it under the radar, let the majority of the population think it is banned and accept the current limitations.

I can only assume you have met some pretty bad keepers in your time but your impression in all honesty is pretty unfair! Not one I know would do what you have suggested and poisoning is illegal and does not happen! It's not a viable method in any way shape or form!

Its ALWAYS been about the foxes. I dont consider hunters a different class from me. I ride and compete horses the same as most who hunt, I couldnt care less what class someone is anyway. I actually think its the majority of the hunters who make it a class issue...

I agree with you that it was not about class. But it was about votes. Blair did it because he knew most Labour voters would be pleased. The same way he spent three million on mapping my area, already riddled with footpaths, for open access even though it's thigh deep in heather between the footpaths and can't be walked on anyway

It was about winning votes.

I'm neither a Labour supporter not a supporter of fox hunting, but that's how it looked to me.
