Does anyone have one? If so what's it like and do you think it's better than just a bog standard GP for someone who wants to focus mainly on flat work but may *she whispers* get back into small amounts of jumping?

Thank you :)

I recently got a wintec VSD and love it. I got it because my mare doesn't fit more forward cut saddles but I have found it has helped my position loads too! I think if you want to focus on your flat work with a bit of jumping it is a really nice saddle as you can move the knee rolls as and when you need to as well!

I had a bates vsd for my old boy which again was as he had a big shoulder. Good for position and sooooo comfy for hacking and fine for small jumps. He has a bit of a pop (well ping) on him though so if I tried to go over 1m he jumped me off in this saddle.

Sounds like it might do for what you want though.

Thank you :)

First I wanted an eventing saddle, then thought that might be too restrictive in the future and then I wanted a GP and then was talking to someone on my yard who is also looking for a new saddle and she mentioned a VSD which I hadn't heard of and now I really want one

Decisions, decisions...

VSD also known as Very Slightly Dressage by some people!, slightly longer straighter kneerolls but enough support for jumping, a useful combination for allround competition.

I have a wintec VSD, its very comfortable for long hacks, my horse has big shoulders so it fits him better too - I find I ride a bit longer than I usually do in a GP - good for dressage but still feel secure to have a jump (I dont do jumping haha) also a wintec so it adjusts for the chage of my horse :)

What do you want to do? If it's anything more than hacking I wouldn't recommend AT ALL. They're a "nothing" saddle, I have an Albion VSD and my long legs hang over the front if I get my stirrups up to jumping length. The seat is too open to do decent flatwork. When I bought it, I thought I'd just be a happy hacker but things don't pan out that way when one's horse shows an aptitude and passion for jumping. I'd have been better off going for a GP.

Thank you for your replies.

Ideally, I would like to mainly focus on dressage at the moment, I am not a fan of jumping at all so I want a saddle for that. I'm only contemplating really as I don't just want a GP.
