I need to let out some pain!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I was just changing a horses rug in the field and doing up the leg strap...I hadn't realised another horse had crept up on the other side of the fence to have a sniff and inevitably squeal and kick out legs in all directions, she got me right on my thigh and sent me flying straight into a big patch of mud (probably would have been quite comical!!)

I sat on the floor for about 5 minutes, she came straight over to me 'Why are you sitting on the floor you crazy woman??!', I then managed to hobble back to my car and drive the mile home in a lot of pain and crying like a baby!

Got a pack of peas and now stuck on the sofa, I don't think I've ever been in this much pain :(

Does anyone know what's best to do? I don't know whether to keep the peas on all the time, the pain's just getting worse whether they're on or not!!!

Bloody horses!!!! I had a nice ride planned for this afternoon :(

Oooh no :-( have a nice hot bath for soothing and peas if it is swollen I think. Do you have any ibuprofen gel? I put that on everything! I cried loads last time I got kicked

I got double barrelled by one of mine couple of weeks ago. Twice for good measure as I didn't move fast enough from the first impact- was also cos another came up behind-On the shin, and bum, I had a perfect hoof print on my bum(she is unshod luckily)!!
Take something like ibuprofen as thats good at reducing swelling. I think peas or anything should not be left on ages, about 20 min at a time. If the pain is really unbearable, you can take paracetemol with ibuprofen.
Witch Hazel is also very good for bringing the bruising out,and arnica helps too.

my OH got a kick in the face 2 weeks ago... more a 'go away' than a strong kick but her bottom teeth cut all the way through her lower lip... you could see teeth when her mouth was closed... very luckily, no teeth damaged past one tiny chip and the cut looks like it won't scare (*touching wood franticly*)

The Doctor removed a sliver of steel from the mares shoe from my OH lip which cleaning it out :/

Oh dear!!!!
All I thought as soon as it happened - thank god it wasn't higher or lower.

I am wondering if it needs an xray - I'm really bad with pain I just put up with it and don't like to make too much fuss, so I'm not sure if it's just muscle damage :s
I don't want to move but may try and hobble to the kitchen and find some painkillers, I've got some gel but it's upstairs and I can't manage stairs!!
I should probably call work, I'm not due in till the afternoon but I won't manage!

I just spoke to a lady I work for in the mornings (where I should be now!) and she's ordered me to struggle to the kitchen, get some painkillers then go to the doctors!!

I'm feeling a bit dizzy now :s

I remember getting double barrelled by my little welshie - she barely caught me on my rib and collar bone but I couldn't breathe and felt sick!

You need an x-ray - AND if you go now, A&E will be quieter. If you wait until tonight it will be vomit central. If you are feeling dizzy, do not drive - get a lift or take a taxi. If you are feeling like you may actually pass out and you are on your own with no prospect of summoning help and no one coming home - call an ambulance.

Get yourself (Or get someone to take you!!) to A&E woman!! A Kick is something not to be messed with and, not being funny but your GP will just send you there anyway.

You need Xrays and good pain killers. If the pain is getting worse it is quite likely it could be broken...

Thanks everyone... I hate making a fuss but it does bloody hurt!
I just spoke to the online nhs service and she's told me to go to the walk in health centre as I won't have to wait as long as A&E.
Typical all my family live really close and they're all at work...I'm sure my mum won't mind leaving early to take me!! I'm married but I still want my mummy!!!
I'll let you know how I get on!!!

I agree with this, and im a nurse with 30 yrs experience :)

ouch, hope you get there soon and get some meaty pain killers. Dizziness might be down to the massive surge of adrenaline you get when this type of thing happens coupled with a bit of shock, defo get checked asap.

My mums friend got kicked by a colt few weeks back on her thigh, didn't break anything but they're worried about a blood clot so she has to be on cruches to rest it for a while. Hope you're ok!x

I was kicked in the groin by my mate's youngster last year (one and only time, touch wood!) and was taken to A&E by ambulance - and if you want to save time this is the quickest way, as you'll be taken straight through regardless of your injury. Morphine made me faint and throw up :( so the painkillers I was advised to use were brufen (400mg) and paracetemol (1000mg) both 4 times daily if required. I was x-rayed in case of broken pelvis but only injury was bruising. The only difficult bits were that I couldn't use my leg for a fortnight as the femoral nerve was bruised and I couldn't get any proper clothes on for ages as the swelling was like being pregnant only agonisingly painful to the touch. So get an x-ray, though it is likely to be just bad bruising, which can be blooming painful on its own. And take as many painkillers as it takes to make you comfortable, within the usual limits!

ouch, i sympathise- Was out on a ride on dartmoor and it was a stormy day (the type with reaaaly bright sun and then showers) it had just started to rain as we headed back, the stables was at the bottom of a steep slope so we got off and led the horses for safety - unfortunatly the guides horse went back to kick the pony i was leading and got me instead right in the shin! Then it started heavily raining so the guide told us to just let go of the horses and they would find their way back- which they did.

My poor dad when 3 riderless horses came trotting in to the yard :D ! had to get the landrover to pick me up as I couldnt walk lol, dont think i got checked out but probably worth you going. I wasnt very old then so being used to taking a few knocks and bruises with horses I just beared the pain and hobbled around for the rest of the holiday :p

I'm currently sitting in A&E waiting for an x-ray, soooo boring! I can't wait to get out and have some lunch...as usual all I'm concerned about is my tummy!

i recommend going to get it x-rayed, maybe take some painkiller / anti-inflammatory's

Hope they see you soon :) in the meantime, you can have some of my jaffa cakes if you like :D

Damn I should of taken your offer...I had a horrid sandwich from the hospital shop instead!!

I got sent for an xray and the doctor came running over before I went in to ask if I could be pregnant (my dad had taken me so little awkward!!) I said I couldn't say no for sure so they had to do a test before an xray...*wanted to curl up and hide*

Had the xray and no damage to femur but really bad swelling so I've been ordered to rest, with ice for a few days and I have crutches coz I can't walk...all I wanted to ask was...'when can I ride??!!!' I got a new horse yesterday!!! So frustrating.

Ahhh I am terrible at resting, I'm so bored already, will hobble to the yard and order husband to see to the horses then he can go and get us a takeaway and lots of chocolate!!!!

I sympathize with you! I ended up at A & E last thurs after being kicked in the head whilst changing my horses rug in the field, he got spooked by the wind and I was in his way! Just had staples removed from my head today but I still feel woosie and have not been to see the boys since accident! I also have a very nasty bruise and swelling on my leg which he also managed to get! I hate being stuck in and cant wait to feel well enough to get out! I also know how very very lucky I am not to have been more seriously injured, hope you heal quickly :-)

Bloody hell this is what happened to me this afternoon! Went in to a wound up horse (i work on livery yard) so tied it up to muck it out, it swung its bum round so i couldnt get in the door with the barrow, so i nicely pushed the horses bum over, and bloody got double barreled! Right thigh swollen and huge and VERRYYY painful, and she got my left one too although she clipped that still painful! Had a little moment, cried, threw up and was dizzy then had to go and finish mucking out and bringing in! in agony now, its huge, like jelly and argh hurts!
xx

Tracy, go to hospital please :)

Never mind broken legs, you can have internal bleeding, compartment syndrome and all sorts of damage.

I have only one opinion when it comes to injuries (I have a physio degree too), I pay my taxes and feel no guilt in using my local A&E, they are experts and no one, even doctors, physios etc can see inside your body but they can do tests and xrays to check for underlying issues. They can also help you do the right things to it.

I would never recommend heat (i.e a bath) in the acute stages of an injury, particularly haematoma, swelling as it makes it swell more!

Why does it sound bad? mums not for taking me to a&e!!

The huge and like jelly bit! (though to be fair if you have been weight bearing on it no problem it could be worse!) It doesn't ring massive alarm bells but I just don't take any chances, you could have torn muscle etc.

Glad nothing broken OP :) And echo others - get yourself checked out tracy, it can't do any harm and A&E can give you a load of painkillers if nothing else.

Totally get the inability to rest :D Must admit I was up at the yard two days after mine - mate gave me a lift, partly as my car was up there and we wanted to see if I could drive (which I could, ages before I could walk properly - had to lift own leg in and out of car for days) and sitting on a box outside stable cleaning tack and making a nuisance of myself. Was weak as a kitten tho - don't advise getting kicked where I did!

My GP was thrilled when I went to see him - made a change from the usual round of stuff, I guess. He had a good prod (ow) and told me to behave as though I'd had abdominal surgery.

Hope you're ok!! Get some ice on it for a few days to stop the bleeding inside.....then alternate hot and cold to get the blood going and get rid of all the crappy blood that has built up inside. I'm under strict insturctions from my dad who has a lot of experience with muscle injuries, he was round first thing this morning checking on it - he told me it's looking good :s hmm yeh lovely!! And that it'll keep bruising for a few weeks then will go down...O so there's hope for me yet!!

Had the worst nights sleep I felt like someone was sticking a hot iron on my thigh every time I moved it, and was willing the time to pass so I could get out of bed and start the day. Then cried coz I couldn't make a cup of tea without hobbling with a crutch in the kitchen and nearly falling over!!!

I couldn't sit in all day, husband drove me to the yard, I sat in the car while he saw to the horses. Then my friend took me for a kfc and into town to buy some stronger painkillers and ice packs....my freezer will be empty if I keep using frozen veg!!!

Now I'm bored bored bored bored!!!!!

I understand your "embarasssment", but really you Dad must know that if you are married, you sleep in the same bed.

My horse was injured last week with mashed up face, now im off with a mashed up leg! What a pair we make! Although gutted i cant ride, for at least a few weeks.
Had ice and hot bath yesterday but just put ice pack on it again today for now as have been busy. Going down and up stairs is agony! Couldnt sleep on my left side either as swelling goes all around! Grrrrr. Bored!!!
