Waiting for solicitor to discuss claim

pointless really but I'm waiting for my solicitor to arrive to discuss my claim for whiplash.....how much do you reckon? and what shall I do with it?

I have my ideas and hubby has different ones haha
 
well I received £3k but that was a car crash which was the other persons fault and It caused me lots of time off, lots of expense with other people doing my horse and I had several medical exams for the insurance claim

apparently 'claims' should be about makng sure the person is not 'out of pocket' and not about financially rewarding the person. if that makes sense.

we're currently going through a big case, where my (policeman) husband received 'full thickness' burns (through to his bone in some places) when he was petrol bombed whilst wearing the police-issue fireproof suits. his suit wasn't fireproof and he got bad bad burns.

he was off work for months, and suffered a great deal. he had to go to hospital every day to have bandages changed but as he wasn't allowed to drive, it meant i also had to take a big chunk of time off work. he got a number of nasty infections. and it wasn't very nice. however, unless someone admits responsibility, he won't get any 'compensation' and even if he does, it's likely to take years.

it's more likely that we'll get our petrol covered for the hospital trips, and get the money back for his prescriptions... he's left badly scarred so it seems a bit unfair.
when it first happened, everyone got all hysterical and said we'd get tens of thousands... which is a nice thought, but i doubt it will happen... at least he's ok now, that's the main thing.

gawd clipcloppop thats terrible, I work in the operating theatre so I can imagine how awful it must have been for you both.

mine is nothing compared to that, although accident wasn't my fault....basically an ambulance chaser called me to discuss compensation. I've been off work this week because of it and won't get paid, so as a minimum I need that back....my main gripe is that I can't ride me hoss!!! still at least I'm in 1 piece

it was a bit gag-worthy... especially when he used to get stuck to the bedsheets with green goo... (*gag*)

we thought about suing for the damage it did to our, um, 'bedroom' life, as he repulsed me for about 2 months. he couldn't wash or shower...

One of the few things that riles me are ambulance chasers.

Why wont you get paid.. If you work for the NHS you will get full wages for the first 6 weeks of your illness.. increaseing to up to 6 months dependant on the time you have worked there.

i had a car crash that was someone else fault, wrote of my car and i had whiplash which meant time of college and missed exams as i couldnt ride and i got 1k.
 
How can a fireproof suit not be fireproof, sounds piss poor to me that the Police aren't equiped with the correct gear for the job, should be suing the home office, if it was a council cleaner falling off a pair of steps they would be quids in, but then it would appear from the media the Army dont do much better either, more bothered about whether Harry called his mate a Paki and welding two different countries helicopter together to save money than anyting else.
 
The rates are pretty standard for things like whiplash, so the solicitor would be able to give you a fairly accurate ball park figure. However, if this person contacted you, chances are they will be seeking a fairly substantial portion of that compensation - the whole 'no win no fee' malarky often means you end up paying them a large percentage (30-40%) of what you are awarded! The ones who say that you keep 100% of your compensation don't take a percentage, but will charge their hourly fees plus a sucess bonus, which can negate any award you get. My car insurance included legal costs cover, so the solicitors didn't take even a penny of my compensation. It might be worth seeing if you have that before you instruct an ambulance chaser, then you would get to keep all your money.

Also, beware of settling too soon - I had whiplash that took several months of physio, if you claim now, you may not be able to recover additional medical bills, or recieve the proper amount for your injury.
 
Agree with emma69 - also check your house insurance as that sometimes has legal included (if you didnt take it out with your car insurance).

Can I also say clipcloppop I feel so sorry for your husband it is awful that he was injured on the job (and job is a public service one) and isnt being properly compensated. Has he spoken with any laywers, union etc? Good luck on the house move hopefully it will be the start of better memories. Oh and good luck with the little one!
