Waiting for the vet

Poor Diddy Rocket, put him to bed about ten to five, was giving him a good check over and noticed that one eye looked a little puffy and he didnt have it fully open, bathed it with some warm water and had a good look, cant see anything in there or any scratches, just a bit of gunk on the eyeball, so not wanting to take any risks im sat here waiting for the vet to come.
he seems more than happy in himself, eating his tea nicely but know I wouldnt be able to sleep if I left it until the morning, if he has scratched it I know first hand how painful it can be!

so can I have some its just a blip and not bad or too expensive vibes please?

your always better off safe than sorry! i had to call a vet out a few Sundays ago, because he had been sweating all day and hadn't pooped much. not much wrong with him just a bit of spasmodic colic.

you couldn't rest if you did have the vet out.
 
vet has now been, poor little chap had scratched his eye as I thought!
has been sedated, given painkillers, antibiotics etc and the vet is coming back Monday to see how it is healing.
Poor little man, want to go and cut down all the trees and hedges now so he cant hurt himself!
he isnt allowed turnout for the next few days if it is windy or sunny which he wont be happy about, so will have to give him a swede on a rope as a treat or something.
felt embarrased by the vet having to wade through all the mud to get to him,
just have to wait for the lovely text with the huge bill now!

Just been down to check on him again, seems to be coming around from his sedative but he feels a little sweaty, is this normal after sedation?
 
this is very normal if you give him another hour it should have stopped! put a wick rug on him under his stable rug so he wont get cold.

hope hes feeling better soon.

thank goodness for that, had visions of him having a heart attack and keeling over :eek:

had to ring his owner to tell her what happened too, luckily she was fine, phew!

he doesnt normally wear a rug as he is only 9.2hh and very hairy, I do have a thick stable rug for him, should I put it on?
 
Glad you have it sorted and treated! don't know if it's the same effects but after general anaesthetic my girl was soaked and dripping sweat. I worked at the vets for a bit and didn't see any other horses sweating this much after ops and the vet said the reaction to sedation and anaesthetic just depended on the individual horse.
 
I am sure he will be fine, they do sweat with sedation especially if they have a thick coat, once the effects of the drug goes the sweating should stop and pony return to normal. Just keep an eye on him, make sure he takes his antibiotics. You did well though to recognise a scratch to the eye and get the vet so quickly.
 
just been down again, he is still quite wet, gave him a rub down and he seems quite happy munching on his hay! I've had a scratch to the eye so know how painful it can be ! thanks for all the support x
