Stressing big style! Son's pony has been having fences jumping recently which is unlike her - we're very very lucky that she is extremely careful usually. OH took video of her jumping at the weekend and I went through it to look at the two fences she had and I can see on these fences and others that she's lifting her near fore shoulder much slower off the ground as she takes off. She's an onward going pony so it's hard to see with the naked eye, so to speak.

Discussed with son this am and he says she's been more reluctant to stretch that leg after her girth has been done up over the last 6 weeks or so. Can't blame him for not realising it might be significant as he's only 12yo.

Now really worried as, in past experience, shoulder/back problems are rarely the original source of a problem and are generally secondary. However, surely if she was in significant pain or discomfort she'd be lame (she's def moving exactly the way she has in the year we've had her) or not jumping? To put it in perspective, they were 2nd in their first BSJA 1.10 on Sat and 3rd in their first 1.15 Members Cup so surely there can't be a big problem....????

SO worried though, as his last pony injured her check ligament and we've had such bad luck....

Over reacting slightly I think!

Like you say it can't be that bad, maybe she has a bit of tightness in the shoulder or neck, this could cause the low grade pain you describe, if it was leg related I am sure she would be very lame.
Hope its easy fixed with a bit of physio.

Sorry to hear that the pony's got a problem. You never know you may find that she's just tweaked something & will need a break from jumping for a short time. It probably isn't serious, may just need a bit of rest.

yes, over reacting probably! If she was seriously injured she wouldn't be jumping at all. I'm sure it will be something a bit of physio can fix easily. If she does a lot of jumping she could easily have landed funny or overstretched and pulled something. Good luck with the vet, anyway

I am sure your pony will be fine, probably just some tightness that the physio can sort out if need be?

Some horses are very honest though, mine was jumping and winning BSJA one day and the next she was diagnosed with PSD and either needs a £3k op or being PTS, and she was still jumping.

If in doubt get it checked out

not realy worth the risk in my opinion, ive been there.
Even if its just to give you peice of mind, if anything does happen in the near future you will never forgive youself.

Haven't been able to log on since this morning - have been getting the temporarily high usage message that kicks me out..

Anyway, vet looked at pony, did a good fitness workup and then said she seemed fine. Today she was happy to stretch shoulder forward - sods law! - but hopefully ti was just "one of those things".

At least there's no immediate worry and we can keep a close eye for any change. Thanks for the support - you know when you just panic...!
