Waitlist question

I was due to run at Rackham on Sunday but as it was cancelled, I looked at other events close by that I could try and get into, and managed to talk the parents into driving 2 hours to Brightling (tempted my dad with promises of a beer tent ;) ). Went to enter it today once I'd sorted out my day ticket troubles (was still allocated to Rackham when I first tried to enter yesterday), and sod's law the class is full now (gutted is an understatement).

Anyway - how do the waitlists work? When I make my entry to I still pay the 70 odd quid or so even though I'm not guaranteed a space, and then have to wait the long 3-4 weeks for a refund if I don't get in? Only one entry in the waitlist so far so want to get in fairly soon - but what is the likelihood of competing if you're on the waitlist?

Thanks!

The only thing I will advise you is if you are on the waitlist on day tickets the full members are likely to get in first.

I asked the BE about this...and the Sec of the particular event we want to run at... and they said that this is definately NOT the case. Its first come first served when it comes to waitlists.

Preferential treatment only applies in ballots.

I am afraid every secretary deals with it differently but in my experience they take them as they like from the waitlist there is nothing that says first come first served ask the many who have been leapfrogged on waitlist by the chosen few.
This is why we have asked for years for waitlist to be kept up to date in received order not alphabetical.
People even get in when they have never been on the waitlist over those still sitting there waiting.I have managed this a few times as it is easier for the secretary to take your entry rather than start ringing around,or the odd few who realise that if they dont replace from the official waitlist they dont need to refund.
It is all a joke and it is the most urgent part of BE that needs sorting then people may start getting refunds they are entitled to.
