walk trot tests?

Not wanting to highjack the pot hunting thread I've just read so new post - sorry to sound dumb but what are walk trot tests?

Are they litterally as said, a dresage test in walk trot and where holds them (NorthWest) ??!!

I've a youngster whose canter is hopeless yet but trot quite nice and i'd love to get him out a bit we'll get slated anyway on transitions but at least he's seeing the big world and geting used to comps

If you contact venues in your area that do unaffliated comps they are more than likely to do walk/trot tests at the start of the day as they are becoming more and more popular now at unaffliated level.

basically dressage tests without the canter yes !!!

Beaver Hall (Leek) have got 'have a go' tests where all canter movements can be ridden in either trot or canter.

BD are introducing a Walk and Trot test from 2008. I believe its called Intro 1. I'm in the same position with canter with my mare at present and Walk and Trot Tests can be difficult to find. The new affiliated test will of course filter down in the future to unaffilliated competition.

I believe BD's new walk and trot test is called "Introductory A". Lots of show centres/ riding clubs etc. have their own walk and trot tests, I did one as my first test on my pony as I was nervous (and my pony couldn't canter corners or circles, just gallop straight lines so it was a bit unsafe!) and it was really good - it got my foot in the door and boosted my confidence. Some people might say "if you can;t canter then don't bother taking the horse out until you can", but IMO it's a great start and you may only need to do one or two to get your horse used to it until you can move up to prelim.
