Walking a mare past a colt's stable...

Out of a blue, my loan mare is returning. You have to walk past the stables to get to the fields, if i put the little colt in a stable, would it be safe to walk the mare past?

Or would it be better to put the colt in the furthest field away but there would only be electric fencing between him and a gelding and then on the other side a hedge (with gaps in) a ditch and electric fencing to mares and geldings.

At my yard there is a stallion and because of the location of his box, mares and geldings walk past him all the time. He is 23 and been in the same stable his whole life. Little colt will have to learn at some point about horses walking past. If he is really that bothered, give him a little feed to distract him whilst mares go past.
 
we have 6 stallions where i work and 3 very fiesty ones. where they are there are horses walking past when being ridden and turned out. they soon learn they can look but cant touch. one does sound like it coming through the door but he is slowly learning. i find they are worse if they have covered a particular mare. the colt will soon learn. i put my hand up at them when i walk past and they generally take a step back.
 
If I put him in the field, would be take notice of the electric fence? and would he be bothered about the gelding or just the mares on the other side?
 
Scampi, if the colt is old enough to cover mares, ie anything past about 15 months, then you'd be mad to put him in a field with just electric fencing. With the right stimulus he'd be clean through it and a lot of people/horses could get hurt. Stallions need proper stallion pens/fencing - they can't help their hormones!
 
As JM07 and I have been down the pub all night, tbh love, who gives and fcuk, thimk about it........
