What foot wear do you wear for walking. I'm looking at getting my bf something decent to wear when we walk the dogs and for when we go on a dog walking holiday.

Any ideas, Thanks

What's your budget? I won't buy anything other than Salomon these days as I have freaky feet and they are wonderfully comfy but they are quite expensive. A real investment though, they last for years. I managed to get a more basic pair of them for my OH for about £50 on offer at Field and Trek. :)

I have Berghaus Explorer GTX boots, I love them. They were about £90, but needed no breaking in at all, I just went straight into a 9 mile walk with no ill effects. I am hoping they will last quite a while!

My last boots were Peter Storm (Millets own brand) boots bought for about £30 in a sale. They were very comfortable, but their sole was not really stiff enough for serious hills and they did leak very badly in the Lake District last month, leading to the recent upgrade. So really depends on where you are going and how long you want them to last.

Best bet is to decide a budget then get to a walking shop and try a load on, see what suits:)

ETA £150 will get you a very nice pair of walking boots indeed :)

If you are doing proper walking, Chris Brasher make excellent boots - they are expensive though! Go to your nearest outdoor shop, try on loads of pairs, and see how they feel.

And mostly importantly, dont forget decent quality socks too :)

Blimey, you can tell my ex is ex-Forces cant you :D

Bridgedale socks rock:D

My mum has Brashers Towas (I think that's what they're called) and she loves them, my stepdad has Meirrels (sp) and is also well satisfied with them.

Thanks everyone, going 2 have a look at the local outdoor shop, just wanted peoples personal experience as i'm a hunter wellies person and we both seriously need to get some decent shoes for winter.

I have a pair of Dickies Storm Safety Trainers (complete with steel toe caps lol) that have lasted me 5yrs so far. They have a hard and durable sole and despite their looks they are watertight - I should know because I submerged them in a muddy puddle that I didn't think was 7" deep. They take me everywhere, the only drawback is they can be a bit cold - easily sorted with a nice pair of thick socks! Oh and the Dickies logo has peeled off the sole of one of them, but it was only glued on for vanity. Cheap too.

But I do agree with Spudlet; set a budget, go to a walking shop or good retailer and see what's best for you. You can get some very nice boots for your budget :D

My husband bought the Salomon boots a couple of months ago - they were instantly comfortable although he found them better with a thinner sock. He had been invited on a last minute 3 peaks walk. He did the walk in about 10 hours on a wet saturday. Dry feet and no blisters.
