Hi,
I'm moving to Scotland soon with my Patterdale and am not quite clear on the access rights. My understanding is that I can walk anywhere! I know I will feel quite rude just wandering across peoples land! Are there any rules? Apart from obviously keeping the dog under control and avoiding crops. I'm moving to a small village and don't want to go getting it wrong in my first week.
Thanks

I was out a walk with the dogs yesterday, took them into a stubble field and let them have a run about. The farmer appeared in his pick up and I was half expecting a ticking off, but of course he didn't :P
I know a lot of the farmers round my way but don't know him, so I did feel a bit weird just going on his land without asking, usually I'd ask just out of manners tbh, but have no clue who owns the field I was using. But it is allowed as long as you aren't doing any damage or worrying livestock really.

read and heed the above information, and just use your common sense!

for the most part you should not feel the need to access fields as there tend to be good forrestry walks/ paths.

i'd never take my dog into a field which had crops growing or livestock on it! ;) as legal as it may be, i would be raging if someone had their dogs in my field: my horses dont like dogs running loose... so they'd soon be sent packing! but most importantly its one of the few places where i can let my dog off safely with no other dogs around. in all honesty though there is a very well used path network running past the field so there is no need for anyone to access my field!

where abouts are you moving to?? (nosey i know!! :D)

xx

Moving to a village south of Kilmarnock, looking for livery too if anyone knows anything!
I can see common sense needs to prevail and he would always be on a lead near livestock but don't want to be the ignorant English swanning about over peoples land.
Good to hear there tend to be tracks around, makes life a lot easier.
While I'm here, can anyone recommend a dog vet in the area?

welcome to scotland! I live in troon which is about 20 mins from kilmarnock. There are loads of places to walk your dog in the area: country parks, beaches, woods, cycle paths etc. Livery yard wise it would depend what sort you were looking for (ie full, part, diy) and how far you were willing to travel but there is harperland in dundonald, rosemount in monkton, broomhill in dundonald, muirmill in dundonald, woodside in monkton and loads more but can't think of any just now! Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions.
