For anyone who walks puppies - at what rough age do you send them back to kennels? I know everyone is different, but this is my first time walking some and I'm curious to see if there is a norm or an age when they are wanted back!

They've been fantastic and we've done so much but they are just starting to look to explore further afield at every opportunity now, they are 8 and half months old.

Thanku!!

Mine went back when they made "new doors" in previously solid walls, usually about the age yours are now!Mine used to go off for miles, but they were stock proof, they always re-appeared in an hour or so.Always thought this was part of their education ,local farmers were tolerant of foxhound puppies ,but not roaming cur dogs.

we used to have them from the easter hols through to about the time we went back to school, so august time. but i guess it depends on when they were born! ours were normally born early in the year, so were sent to walkers around end of the hunting season at 10-12 wks old

Just don't keep them so long that the neighbours flatcoat get them pregnant and you end up with something like Hobo on your couch. It wasn't me i just bought the result!!

hobo thats brilliant!! Maybe not from huntsmans point of view, but that is a crazy dog!

Ok, I feel a lot better now thank you everyone - typically they have been angels since I posted this, but I'd prefer that they went back safe and sound! Seems respectful age.

Gingerspice thought you might like this one! He does cause a fair bit of amusement with the hunt staff around here.

That's not at ALL strange! My foxhoundxLab pre-washes EVERYTHING that gets dumped in the sink, plus any pans left on top of the stove (hot or cold, empty or not!) I have to cook on the back hot plates and range empty saucepans along the front so that I get a warning (clattering pans hitting the ground) before the steak/sausages/whatever disappear! (She has hybrid vigour for greed!)

Her best 'thieves' include a LARGE Game Pie - fully wrapped (she left the wrapping by the manege); 2 frozen salmon en croute (left out to thaw) and a whole loaf of bread stolen from a closed bread bin!

I don't walk pups any more - but the furthest mine went was about 8 miles! I had 3 at one time - two sisters - and an unrelated doghound. When they went, the doghound was left behind - I found him crying behind an OPEN gate - because they'd all gone off and left him! I found the two bitches, plus my Springer, Jack Russell AND Golden about 2 miles away!

My neighbour used to toss over the hedge loaves of bread ,still in their wrappers,as living alone she would use two or three slices and then waste the rest. One day she asked me if I had found the loaf where she`d tossed it..of course I had`nt..but Bridget hound passed the Mother`s Pride wrapper a day later, very colourful it was too:D:D
