Not sure where to post really but just a general enquiry...I noticed yesterday as my friend led my horse for me that she puts her back legs down on the outside(like humans do when they wear one side of their shoes down) so when she puts her hoof down it slides to the side. Shes unshod at the back. Does anyone elses horse do this or is my mare just weird? Do you think I should get her shod at the back to stop her from wearing her hoof down? Although it isnt worn down at the moment when she starts working properly Im a bit worried....

Do you mean that she is twisting her hoof on the floor when she places the foot down? Have you seen her being walked and trotted up?
My mare used to very slightly twist her feet sometimes in walk if she was just being led, but I never noticed that she did this during ridden work (i.e. being ridden in an outline). She didn't do this when trotting.
I never had a problem with my mare, but twisting the foot during the foot fall can put extra strain on the joints.

I should speak to you farrier about your concerns, and i'm sure that he / she should be able to put your mind at ease.

Iv seen her walking from behind, she doesnt twist as such, just seems to put the pressure on the outside so when her hoof touches the ground she looks like shes just putting it down at an angle. Il see what my farrier says
