Walsh cleared to make riding return on Friday

RUBY WALSH has been given the all-clear to return from injury at Cheltenham on Friday.
Walsh, who had his spleen removed following a fall at Cheltenham on November 15, was cleared to resume by Turf Club chief medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick.
Walsh said: "It's all systems go. I've got the go-ahead and will start back on Friday when I will have one ride, Mahonia, for Paul Nicholls at Cheltenham.
"It's the news I wanted to hear and I'm really looking forward to getting back into action."
Walsh, who partners Celestial Halo and Silverburn for boss Paul Nicholls at Cheltenham on Saturday, is expecting to ride for Willie Mullins at Cork or Navan on Sunday.
 
Yes, hope he's not doing too much too soon. Fingers crossed he survives today without incident.

What does everyone think of the new Racing Post website, by the way. I think it's RUBBISH, and wrote to the Editor and told him so!!
 
That is pretty amazing. Well done Ruby.

I kept asking my daughter how he was getting on, but she works in a different part of the hospital - and wouldn't/couldn't say anyway due to patient confidentiality. But some of the other patients were asking her if she knew!
 
He looked pretty ropey at the end of the race, setting Mahonia up at the last hurdle, rather than riding at it.
I hope he's had the blow he needs, but to race ride so soon after surgery like that is a big ask.

Nice to see Mon Mome win, irritatingly not carrying my cash as he often has in the past.........

Agree with you - perhaps it will just take us time to get used to it, but finding it hard at the moment to do all the searches we regularly use.

As for Ruby - great to see him back riding - would love to have him on one of ours one day.
 
I haven't seen the racing today so hope my video was working ok as I have taped it. Good to see Ruby back and I am sure he won't push himself until he is ready and has the mounts to put him in the spotlight.
I fancied Mon Mome today and the runner up Star de Mohaison. Not been able to have a bet today as been at the yard all day helping out and washing Mcfly ahead of his clip tomorrow as we get ready for the Xmas ride on Sunday.
Mon Mome I have liked since seeing him win at Uttoxeter a while back as he looked a thorough stayer and very tough. Wonder if he may make up to a National hunt chase contender in the 4 miler at the Chelt festival?
Star de Mohaison has been the nearly horse and a few years ago before getting injured he looked a serious horse going places. I had him in my ten to follow in the past and he is in this year too as I really fancy him to win a big race one day. Nicholls and his owner are not fools and don't keep them in training just to keep them ticking over. They know they have one or two decent races in them, even after injury. I mean look at Kauto and the way he came back from what could have been a career ending injury in some horses and lesser yards and he went on to win a Gold Cup.
No Star, will win something decent this year, mark my words on that. He perhaps wants decent ground too which is not sticky or holding to be seen at his best too.
If he continues where he left off he may even end up being a contender for the 3 mile one furlong race at Aintree, the name of the race has gone from my head at the moment lol.
Ditto what has been said about the Racing Post site. I really don't like it at all!
I wrote to them a while back complaining about the lack of racing reports on the site as their numbers were getting depleted and even now they are very brief.
It was the same when they removed the stable tours from the free online version a while back and then put them back on again once the closing date for the ten to follow had gone.
They also removed the quotes from daily racing last season too. You could only get access to this if you bought the printed version or pdf format.
As someone who never got the paper free, even when I was working in the industry I think this cost cutting is unfair on the average punter. Not everyone can afford to buy the newspaper every day, and not everyone goes into the bookies every day either.
I just don't think it is fair at all. Not all of us bet in thousands or even hundreds weekly or even daily. As such why pay out over a pound to read a newspaper every day if you are only staking small amounts and can expect only a few pounds profit.
I said to my partner when the newspaper was sold, was it last year or the year before? That's it they will start cutting back on the free stuff now and either remove it completely online or make you pay for it. It stinks to be honest with you!
I was told by email that the online version has always been considered to be a separate format to the printer version. Bullshit. I have been reading the online version since I was online at college back in 1997! I can say now that I did not see that many differences between the two versions especially where betting was concerned or keeping punters informed of the latest up to date news about horses, yards, their form and equally their chances.
No I reckon that more changes will be afoot you mark my words. Less and less will be available for free online and I can see a time when they may force people into buying the paper (printed or online) in order to get access to all the information they need for betting.
Incidentally I used to rely on quotes a lot for my betting strategies, both pre and post race, what trainers and jockeys say about their horses can point to their chances on the day or in the future. Without this knowledge I believe you are backing blind. There is only so much you can read into form and if they have a poor run and there is nothing in running to suggest why then reading a quote from the trainer may unravel what happened on that day. You cannot guess for all the circumstances when horses run badly. I really miss the quotes to be honest. The ones that they have in the paper now, ( free version) are a watered down version and you don't get as much information as you used to.
Bring back the old Racing Post online before they started hacking into it and moving sections around so you could not get access to them.
