About a year ago something came up with my family which resulted in my cob being sent to live in a mountain without my knowing.
Eventually I found him, brought him back into work and lent him to my cousin as she was looking for a bombproof pony that was easy to look after and that she could learn to ride on, and so far he's been amazing!
That was at the start of December and however its went downhill from there. I've went to see him three times, not counting the day I dropped him off. The day I dropped him off I was shocked at the state of the yard, but that was me being snobby I guess. The stables were dark and smelly, metal sticking out from random places and the arena was mud etc.
The second time I went up, I was even more shocked to find he had a stable rug AND a heavyweight rug on, and he was sweating. He's a very heavyweight cob, who was never rugged since I got him as a 1yo, and I had provided the heavyweight rug for his turnout as he had a small clip so he didnt get overly sweaty. Then after watching my cousin tack him up I saw a homemade contraption working like side reins except made out of baler twine and far too tight. He's a five year old cob who has never needed any contraptions as I broke him myself as a 13yo and is the easiest going pony I have ever rode. Later that day he stumbled when being rode and my cousin fell off, all because he was unable to balance himself because his head was held so tight!!!!!
It just keeps getting worse and worse, yesterday I went to see him and the YO and he looked miserable. The yard owner is controlling and obsessive (but wouldnt come out to me) and has ruined my pony. He used to be cheeky and loving, always had his ears pricked and loved to rest his head on your shoulder and go for a snooze.
I nearly cried yesterday upon seeing his lovely feathers hacked off because he had mites which he had NEVER had with me in nearly 4 years, his tail barely below his hocks, his lovely thick mane now like scraggly rat tails and sweating like a pig because he had a full summer sheet on! My other horse a very fine 16.1hh ISH is out all night with no rug and shes fine!? This is the last straw for me, I want my pony back but I dont know how to go about it as my cousin loves him and shes come on in leaps and bounds but I cannot see my pony go on like this, what should I do?!?!?!?
