Want to ride again, but...

I'm too fat. :o I'm a size 22-24, and there's no way any riding school would let me sit on any of their horses. I had a really bad year last year, lots of stress and ate far too much junk.

I was in a similar position two or three years ago - having finally recovered from a Bad Back. I decided not to go on a "diet", and started doing step aerobics at home, within a few months I'd dropped over a dress size (just from toning up) now that I could see a difference in my shape I was motivated to stop snacking between meals - I still ate "properly", just stopped eating everything in sight! I've since lost a stone, and dropped a total of two dress sizes, and more importantly, I've stayed two dress sizes smaller, and have maintained my weight - without the need to starve myself, or resort to any fanch diet plan.

YMMV

You can do it.

I used to have a group of friends who were all either skinny minnies who ate whatever and did no exercise or who were rotund and never managed to lose weight. I gave up and resigned myself to being fat. When I moved abroad I made some new friends amongst whom were people who were not naturally skinny but who were losing weight. I will never be thin, but there are usually things you can do to make it better and so you feel okay with how you look. I am not there yet but the last six months have made a massive difference. It is now really noticeable and its really encouraging when your clothes fit better (or get too big) and people say how much better you look.

I went to a nutritionist. She was great. She is french and scary so I dont dare go for a weigh in and be heavier !! I now make the effort to eat at least 3 meals a day and to eat only lightly in the evening - eating once a day in the evening and too much wrecks metabolism. I was also eating too many carbs and not enough protein. Also majorly reduced my booze intake. She also checked me incl blood pressure, sugar metabolism etc Have lost nearly 13 kgs since mid June and aim to lose another 10 at least which should get me to a 14-16 rather than an 18-20. My sis has lost 20 kgs since easter (and she isnt beating me !!!). Was useless in december though so got to properly go for it in jan - want to lose 3kgs by the end of the month. Off to the soapbox then....

OP, good luck with your diet, do please consider the food intolerances route. I've certainly found that to be a cause of unexplained weight gain and real difficulty in losing it.
In the meantime, you might consider volunteering with a RDA group. They will very likely have good weight carrying horses, as even their lightest riders will probably not be very well balanced. You may well be able to ride there as well.

Thanks! Will look into the food intolerance and crushings.

Just had a small bowl of scrambled eggs with lean ham and a little bit of cheese. I don't eat much protien, so I'm trying to up that a little bit and get away from the carbs.
