Do you think they work? Has anyone ever done one, what sort of response did you get?

I've got a spare advert to go in H&H and was wondering if this would be a good way to use it or not.

Thanks

i've browsed the wanted adverts as Sassy will be for sale shortly and emailed a couple of people, i would just say make sure you are very specific about what you want and be prepared for silly offers....... might be worth a go

I have placed wanted ads in H + H a couple of times and had a good response, but be prepared for people calling you with things that are nothing like what you are looking for! I specified 100 miles radius of Northumberland and got loads of calls from Devon, Cornwall, Wales etc. A lot of the people who replied hadn't advertised their horses for sale yet. It's certainly worth a try.

I may be wrong about wanted adverts but they seem to attract people desperate to sell something that is nothing like you advertised you wanted. Or you get agents calling you.

I've never known one of these adverts actually be successful

I responded to a wanted ad on my local RC website. I wasn't especially wanting to sell, but they described my horse exactly, and they ended up buying him. It saved me the trouble of advertising.

My friend did it for a sj on a limited budget. She travelled from Cardiff to Yorkshire to view it but it was and still is a total bargain. The owners were looking for a 5 star home and dropped to her budget after reading the advert. The horse 7 yr old was out of newcomers and jumping foxs.
Def worth a try IMO. She did it on horsemart

Yes I have. I used horsequest. Got a good response and I would say about 50% fitted the description of what I wanted. I think it offers a lot of oppertunity to get the horses who aren't yet on the open market.
Just be very specific about what you want!

I needed to sell my girl and kept putting it off. Just at that time someone put a "Wanted" ad in that sounded perfect for her. I let them have her on 3 months trial with view to buy and it worked out perfect!

Ive not placed wanted ads to buy a horse but i put a wanted ad up when i was looking for one to loan/help out with.

I got quite a lot of replys... one was nearly successful but owner then changed her mind about loaning her horse out. 2 others sounded fab but were too far away for me to travel (would have to catch the bus as couldnt drive at the time) I then tried one through word of mouth which was just up the road from me.

I then started helping out with my friends horse and i still got messages asking if i was still looking for a horse to loan! (i thought id deleted them all but obviuosly i hadnt)

So of my experience they work out quite well and i got a good response

I did a wanted ad in Arabian Lines and in Horsemart. I got loads of replies from Horsemart, the majority fitted the bill and none from Arabian Lines. I did the same another time on Horsemart but wasn't quite as specific are got more rubbish. But both times though I specified a mare and under 10 I got geldings and a few of 14 and one of 21!!!! that woman was quite abusive when I said I just didn't want one that old. Took me 20 mins to get her off the phone!!! so I agree with other posters, be very very specific about what you want. Most people who contacted me hadn't yet advertised their horse and were worried about selling so felt that someone who bothered to advertise must be ok - at least that's what they said to me. good luck!

Have frequently used them - you do get the oddest responses, but have also sold through them. Be specific and be prepared to giggle at the "out there" replies!

I got my sensible mother's hack cob through a wanted ad. He's been everything I asked for and more. I did only get the one reply - but he was perfect.

I bought a horse last year after putting in a wanted ad. Had all sorts of really unsuitable horses offered though. It was interesting, as being specific about a certain category of show horse that we were after, we knew most of those being offered, and were well aware that they did not meet the required specification!

i have done one recently on the bd website , for a horse to buy , & really quite specific about what i wanted

90% of responses were not what i asked for at all , eg several years older , 300 miles away , £25-£30k asking price!?

needless to say , still not found one!

I have bought most of our horses / ponies by placing a wanted ad and have always had a huge response. As said above be prepared to sort the 'wheat from the chaff' but it is still well worth it. I always use Horsemart as good value.
