are they worth it? Do they work? Or would I be better off putting the word out with as many friends as possible, and at our yard, to find what I want?

I am too impatient to wait any longer

I think they do! I sold a horse by contacting someone who had a wanted add. I also had a wanted add looking for a part loan and had at least 5 people contact me within the week

Yes, I think they work. I go my duaghter's first pony when I placed a wanted ad and someone replied to me. The family had been thinking about loaning/selling the pony but had not deceided fully and had not go around to advertising him. They saw my 'wanted' ad and saw that I wasn't too far from them and contacted me. We tried the pony, he was fab and we bought him. 18mths afterwards they bought him back from me!

I wasnt sure whether everyone just ignored them TBH

Where would anyone recommend I advertise? H&H? Or Horsequest? Or just local tack shops etc?

Sorry about all the questions

I got pickle because of a reply to a wanted ad I put on newrider.com. He was the 14th horse I went to see and has been fab and wasn't even advertised yet!

Would it be cheaper to do a double one? If so, we could advertise on the same box but with seperate descriptions

The only difference in the horses we want is I want something you to bring on, and you want something that has been there and done it

Well I suppose we could do a bigger and more impactive advert that way

Trouble is I will only have £5k to spend until I get a job, then can go up to £7.5k once I am employed, so shouldnt think I could get anything like I want for £5k

The lady whose horse I ride has started riding it again so suddenly my riding time has halved, hence the sudden desire to buy my own

AV? And I am sure you will find something you want for that, maybe a bit older but horses these days go on for AGGGGESSS and PN isn't going to oush most horses so I guess they could do that into their 20s?

I found my current horse through a wanted ad. I had loads of Arab owners ring me and lots of dealers (nothing wrong with arabs, just really not me!) I also had lots of 'problem' horses as i had advertised for something to bring on, basically you will have lots of people with nothing like you describe... but thats not neccessarily a bad thing

The mare i ended up with had only just been advertised, she was unbacked- i wanted something somehing that was recently broken, she is 16.hh- i wanted something more 15hh ish, she is chestnut - i wanted a coloured or a bay, she is a WB X TB- i wanted something more chunky... basically even though she isnt what i wanted i wouldnt change her for the world and im glad that i didnt get what i had asked for- there you go another successful wanted ad!

wanted ads definitely work!!!!
i got my mare 15 months ago due to putting in a wanted ad, after several bad viewings of advertised horses. just make sure you are open minded, but put in what is important to you..... eg, traffic, shoe clip, jump, dressage etc etc.
worked for me!!!!

Is Frampton Cotterell in Bristol too far away for you? as I have a 16.2hh IDx mare more ID than anything who I can only ride a couple of times a week so you are more than welcome to come and ride her whilst on your quest!

That is very kind of you, but I think it is a bit too far

as I live in Ledbury (south Herefordshire)

But thank you very much for the suggestion, if you were slightly nearer I would have jumped at the idea
