Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy or loan a polo pony and I wondered if any of you might be able to help?

I have been grooming and playing polo for the past two years, and now want something to start me off. Perhaps something older/minor injury - ie not able to play in the bigger stuff!

I ride well - have owned horses all my life, come from a horsey background and live on a farm.

If anyone knows of such a pony being wasted stuck out in the field - do please let me know! A 5* home and much love awaits any pony!

Thank you so much. Any help would be great!

OOhh I know someone who is selling a polo pony but I don't know his name.
He is a police officer for Leighton Buzzard/Dunstable police and has a South African accent. I can try and find out as I know someone else who works there.
I think he said it was an 8 yr old mare, top class polo pony and wanted about 4 or 5K. Also think its stabled nr Windsor but that may be wrong
Let me know if you want me to find out more.

My friend also got one given from Medbourne Grange in Northamptonshire I think it was...might be worth ringing them?

Thank you all so much for your replies!
Really helpful. Will try get in touch with a few polo barns and see if they have something. Am looking to get two really - so can play in the low goal tournaments... so if you do hear of anything going for free would really appreciate the heads up!
Thank you guys

Hi I'm just asking if you have any contacts at the Polo yard you worked at before who might be able to sell you one?also, What's your age/ price range as I might be able to help( play polo myself) regards to having 2, if you only have 1, that's fine too as you can play a half place which is often done! (2 chukkas out of 4) lastly, I'd be cautious about getting free or cheap ones as they often have tendon problems or arthritis etc hich you might find having to pay more vet bills than play chukkas at all! Especially cos some ppl sell polo ponies from the field/ unfit after winter and you might think bargain but think again! Have fun and good luck in your search!

Ps pls try the ponies first as not all polo ponies are bomb proof etc! You need one yhat'll improve your game and that's not nutty ( which many are!)

James Fielding at JF Polo Academy in Cheshire has a pony sale every so often...I think he may be having one soon. He has a few for sale at the moment as well, I think. I'm sure he'd be able to help.

If your close, give Sussex Polo Club a try. They've got some of their schoolmasters up for sale and the owner is very honest and helpful.

They are selling some of their horses as they simply have too many - a few of them are on here http://www.polotimes.co.uk/index.php?pg=37&cat=1

Just give a ring anyway as they are very nice and helpful people - if I were buying I'd definitely go to them - and I've ridden some of their ponies which are very easy and well schooled.

Contact Lynt Polo Club, and speak to Charlotte Verdon. I bought my polo pony from them who had a heart murmur and was 16 and needed a quieter life. She has played 4 goal and low goal and pony club since and is 21 and still fit as a fiddle.

My other one was cheap and off polo times, a lucky find aged 13, owner v rich and her least favourite pony.

I have also helped many a friends find free or cheap polo ponies. Post an advert in polo times. Saying offering a life long permanent loving home for a beginner. Go for the stockier older bombproof ones, as opposed to the younger ex polo ponies as quite often if they're retired young they are a bit loopy or have serious leg issues. The older ones for free are for people who are lucky enough to be able to afford new younger models and who are probably higher handicaps and assume that nobody wants the older ones. Obviously not always the case but I have made my mistakes and learnt that this is almost 90% the case.

If you give them tlc, lots of food and really get them properly fit and don't turn them away then the older schoolmasters are the best. Don't get a young one which might be cheap but not got much polo experience as they won't help your polo one bit!!

Hope that advice has helped. Ask Lynt, they had one a month back for £800 xx

A good friend of mine just bought a polo pony from Ranksboro Polo (Google) she's a diamond was reasonably priced and had been used for teaching so fab for just having some fun with and they were really helpful going from her experience I'd say well worth a look at and she's 8 been well looked after and sailed through a vetting also beautiful personality too :) . Best of luck
