Hi everyone Im new hear. my names Rebecca and 26 this year. I have been out of the saddle for about 8 years minus a few lessons hear and there. I previously had my own ponies/horses from been 7ish to 18. we owned two ponies welsh cross who taught me how to stay in the saddle ;) and stunning strawberry roan new forest cross mare which i shall try tell you more about her later as she had a special story (our ponies may not have been much to the spectator but they were our's and very special to us) and a Clydesdale cross to take my dads weight. Anyways due to family problems this became the end of a special time for me with the horses.

So after getting some sort of career, settling down with my OH, having my beautiful little boy (he's four now) plus buying a house going back to my childhood passion has slowly gone down the scale up until now :)

Am looking for a little bit of advice as when i had my horses I was always backed by my parents financially and this of course will be a big step for me. so i was thinking of starting riding lessons again once a week to get my self re established in the saddle (also going to start with my little one with lessons) and then may be in time seeking a part loan?

I would just like to say when i had my own ponies i was not the pampered princess and i was up there all weathers lugging wheels barrows water etc so I still remember the hard work it does involve at times :)

Im just looking for general pointers or other peoples experience coming back into the world of horses

thank you

You could start with a Take Back the Reins course which is an olympic legacy initiative aimed at people who want to get back into riding. The courses are a series of lessons at a reduced price. I'm currently doing the course at some local stables and its brilliant. Mines with a dressage trainer and she has taken us right back to basics with exercises, seat, feel etc. She uses some of the sally swift analogies to explain things.

If you google take back the reins they have a website where you can find out if any stables local to you are participating.

Great advice from Rhubarb. I also had a long break from riding and started weekly lessons about a year ago before starting my BHS stages. I think your plan to seek a part loan is an excellent idea - there are lots of owners looking for sharers and it would ease you back in gently. Just be prepared for the bug to bite you very hard!! Enjoy :)

RHUBARB: thank you for that, will head to Google now to have a browse and see if there anything in my local area or surrounding. :)

MAGGIESTAR: Yes shared looks very appealing keep looking at diff ads and there many about. I want to take this serious and would be very silly of me to rush head in buy my own after 8 long years ( i saw this many a time growing up) the bug has started to take effect old memories.

Theres a yard/riding school up from me who do a loan scheme 3 days a week thinking of inquiring but am not sure as if they the riding school ponies/horses......

thanx :D
