I haven`t seen it yet, don`t know if I can bear to watch it. Hubs has just put it on record for me so I can choose when to watch it and will have the fast forward option if needed (I`m so blumming soft)
I saw it when it first came out and am watching again tonight in case it's better on small screen.
The actual war scenes are not the worst bit - it was all the mushy sentimental stuff at the beginning I couldn't stomach. And the bit that's on just now with the old granddad and granddaughter in the forest - blech! And why sre the horses neighing all the time??
The rest of the film does give an indication of how terribly hoses as well as humans suffered in WW1 so worth persevering for that message if nothing else,
Similar to titanic - an epic story based on real events given the overblown hollywood treatment
Just spent two hours watching it and clutching the tissues for the tears. 2nd time I've seen it. The play (seen it once) is harrowing and poignant and tearful and the puppets wonderful all at the same time, well worth seeing.
Its is a beautifully done and little far fetched children's story is very easy to watch and is fairly emotional but is hasn't made me cry. I think the fact that is is very sanitized makes your imagination work overtime and as such is a far more harrowing film
Didn't watch it - when it first came out in the cinemas I saw a trailer for it and it was the worst CGI I've seen in a very long time, and that put me right off. The inevitable USA schmaltz wasn't inviting either. Now the stage play, now you are talking! Seen the touring company twice now. Last time I took my mum as a birthday surprise. The fact that one of the actors who does Joey and Topthorne's heads was her school pupil as a 5 year old was just a coincidence!
I saw the stage play at the National and thought it was brilliant, the film, however, is a different, matter so much of it was sentimental rubbish and not very accurate in terms of how one trains and works horses. The part in the trenches though was well done and when Joey is galloping through the wire, it's difficult to watch as it's very realistic.
