Warm and Waterproof Boots for a Wiiiiiiddddde Calf?

Am sulking. Bought some Mark Todd boots from Equestrian Clearance (usual good service from EC, thank you :)). Measured calf. Checked measurement of boot. Close, but okay and would be better in a few weeks time, so looking forward to them arriving.

They got here yesterday and they are way too small around the calf :(. They are even too small lower down the leg, which isn't an issue I've ever had before :o:(. To send them back is going to cost upwards of £10, so am thinking of ebaying them instead. Even on thirteen year old D2 they are very close around the lower leg, though baggy around the tops.

So, I need a pair of warm and waterproof boots for winter... As the weight is dropping off me (oh so slowly!!), I don't want to spend a fortune :eek::rolleyes:. The boots I really want are Dubarry's Clares, but not getting those until I can have a normal pair and they fit properly :)

I had Muckboots, but they rub the back of my leg (just above the spur rest), which is a pity :(. They also split far too easily around the foot, but I would have put up with that bit. Bit stiff to ride in as well, but another niggle that I would have put up with, especially as I can't ride until February lol.

Hope my drivel made sense and someone can suggest some goodies :D

Chocolate Hobnobs and hot choccies with all the trimmings for all and wonderfully useful suggestions :D
 
Oooh choccy hobnobs, haven't had them for ages!

Shame the muckboots for riding rubbed you, thats what I swear by in winter. Mine rubbed for a little while, but were fine with thicker socks to start with. My first pair split quickly, but the next pair have done 2 winters so far.
 
I saw a pair of dubarry style boots on 16plusrider.com (or was it fuller fillies?) last night, they came in XL and L with descriptions of the calf width on them.

Mountain horse rimfrost rider also fitted me as they do a wide or extra wide calf width - but after a while they rubbed me terribly. *mutter mumble about manufacturers not designing boots which don't rub*. My muckboots I've had a year now, no sign of cracking *touches wood* and they only rub with certain jods, which have big seams. My ankles are also only just finishing recovering from about a month ago when I needed them on in an emergency so I wore jeans inside them :o

Aye, tried thicker socks, but to no avail :(. The boots are sooooo warm! Perfect for yomping about and stuffs until I have better legs and can ride and can get some yummy Clares. I wonder if it's because my calf is fat and it holds the boots in a certain way..., heard of a few people having the same problem, but on the whole (apart from the splitting) they are good boots :)

Am thinking maybe a decent welly a size too big and then a thermal insert and a couple of pairs of welly warmers :D:eek::D

Ah, that sounds like my sort of website... (wish I had the fuller figure up top as well to match ;) :rolleyes::D)

I wore D2's Muckboots for a half hour walk last week - still have the holes in my legs :(. I tried all sorts of jodhs and sock combinations, but no luck :(

I'm just an odd wibbly-wobbly shape :eek::rolleyes:

*hands round Hobnobs and pours hot choccies, looking about for the sprinkles*
 
Look at the sherwood boots. I've got the ones with the buckle down the side, and they are gorgeous. 100% waterproof and warm, and not hideously expensive either. I have got the "normal" calf and havent got the skinniest calves, but they do a wide as well :)
 
The Ariat Rydal's come up wider in the calf than the Grasmeres, although I recall that the Grasmeres have a full calf option now.

Rydals (and Grasmeres) can occasionally be found ridiculously cheaply on ebay - paid £100 each pair for a pair for my husband and a pair for me - that makes it sound like we are a matchy matchy couple but we aren't, honestly!

I LOVE my Grasmeres. I'm getting into the Rydals, the issue I have with the Grasmere's is that I can't get thicker socks underneath and although it's rarely necessary sometimes it's nice to feel that bit warmer, the Rydals allow me to have a pair with thick socks and not have to undo the laces (I did buy a bigger size!)

Ta hun :). I've tried them on before, but ended up in too much of a twoddle with the laces :eek:. I am indeed a simple soul :rolleyes:

If you're somewhere where they have the Rydals, see if you can get them on with the laces done up - and consider the possibility of elastic laces to make it even easier:D

ROFL - and just like a man I couldn't wait and ordered the first waterproof, warm, wide, and idiot proof ones that came up :rolleyes::eek::cool:
 
The Sherwoods arrived yesterday when I was out. Looked at them today. Fit well. Comfortable. And the tattiest pair of boots I've ever seen! They're going back :(. Glue on the outside, marks, edging not finished properly :(. Not impressed.

Didn't help that D2 was leaping abour singing about how much she loves her Dubarrys! :cool::rolleyes:
 
If you manage to find a good pair for fatty legs pleaaaaaase let me know!!

I found the Hunter Balmoral Neopreme wellies really comfy and warm but they didnt even last a winter!
Dad has ordered me some le chameau (sp?) wellies for my birthday - fingers crossed they last!!

I have some Dubarry Wexford boots but they were farrrrr too expensive to actually wear mucking out / trekking through ankle deep mud!

Have to admit, I thought this too! Then got all excited thinking how I was going to make friends with another cow :D (they seem to like me?!).

Then I realised how silly I am! *facepalm* x
 
Well I didn't think of cuddly liddle calves as I have the same problem - cob legs!:D Tuffa Suffolk boots for me everytime.

I got a pair last week (wide calf), having checked the measurements, and I had to send them back because they didn't fit. I was most annoyed, I'd been looking for boots like that in a wide calf for ages, and thought I'd finally found a pair that would go on my mahoosive legs!
